    Rishi_new,

Don't worry,In the first trisemster you will lose weight due to nausea and everything. You might have gained some weight by now.

Also are you doing the pap test for the first time.Don't worry about the small hole.At the time of delivery your cervix will automatically dilate to push the baby outside.

is normal delivery possible for me?

    Hi all,

Iam just into my 2nd pregnancy. My first delievry was c-section. I didnt have any pain till 41st week. Doc induced pain and i felt contractions but they said normal delivery is not possible since my....(dont know the correct word) didnt expand. And after delivery they said my next delivery will also be c-section.

Are there any methods to make my next delivery normal.

    Hi Nimmy,
There are 80% chances for C-Section .However some of my freinds had a normal delivery though their frist was c-section.
After 7 month go for regular walking...

    Re: normal delivery

    Hi Gokila,

I spoke to the doctor reg the same, she says no exercise can make it a normal delivery. That depends on the position of the baby at the time the pain comes and also the weight of the baby also matters. If the baby has positioned itself with the head at the correct vaginal position then it can lead to a normal delivery. Also if the weight of the baby is above 3 kg , then the doctors usually go for c section.

Dont worry about anything now, whether c section or normal, bith are fine these days. No problem at all...so take rest and hope for the best.

Walking is the best exercise. That would be sufficient to help in normal delivery. As Hasini said, nothing is in our hands,it depends on the position of the baby and day of labor. All the best and keep walking.

    Hi gokilaravi,
As other IL's suggested, nothing is in our hands. It all depends on your will power and baby's movement during labour.
But Walking is the best excersise for a smooth delivery.

    Re: normal delivery

I try not to bring in my emotions in a negative way here but this has really upset me. Why?

One that women think that nothing in our hands. When one has such a mindset then how can we acheive what is best for us. What happend to information, knowledge and empowerment.

Two That we believe anything that is dished out to us just bcoz the initials "Dr" are there and we also pass on the same info without verifying

Exercises do not ensure normal delivery but will definitely aid in flexibility during labor which will ne a huge help during labor. SOme exercises also help the baby to descend and engage during the last few weeks.

During delivery you are required to spread your legs as wide as possible with the lying down and semi- sitting position. If you dont exercise then there is possibility of cramps in the thigh region which may hinder during baby crowning. Also labor requires you to be physically fit and strong. Earlier women did a lot of manual labor, had indian toilets , sat on the floor but we do non e of this now. SO we are required to train and practice so we do not face these hassle sduring labor.

Wlaking is a very good exercise. COntinue but dont strain yourself.
If you dont have cervical stich or any other issues you cn do squatting from the 34th week. Sitting on the floor cross legged is also a very good form of exercise.

C-section for baby weight 3 kg and above. Well know you can understand why C-section rate in some private hospitals are at 70%. The average weight of an indian baby is between 2.5 kgs to 3.5. below 2.5 is under weight and over 4 kgs is considered over weight.

Hasini I suggest that you relook what your doc believes in by doing some research, speaking to other docs.

How do doctors determine weight ? By ultrasound scans which has atleast 15% + or - variation. We saw a story here where a doc perfprmed a c-section believing the baby was big at 32 weeks and the baby was 1.25 kgs and what a really terrible the mother and baby went through.

My son was 3.6 kgs and my daughter 3.1 kgs ( she was considered to be a small baby) andI had both normal. First labor lasted 10 hrs from start to finish ( not the pain) and second 5 hrs though I was given medicine to speed up labor once it started as a routine.

About a week back a lady was referred to me on her due date. This was her 3rd child and first 2 normal and on her due date her doc (different than the first 2)said she has to have a C-section bcoz her baby was big. I asked her to take a second opinion was a known doctor who was confident that it was not a big baby. She delivered the next day normally and baby's weight was 3.2 kgs and did not have even a big head.

There are cases where even 4 kg babies have been delivered normally.

A vaginal birth carries much lesser for both mother and baby than a c-section. Please read up on this and let c-sections be only done when medically required abolute indications. Only then does it compares with a normal delivery.

When Statements like " Nothing is in our hands " are made , you are definitely giving away in a platter to be taken advantage of and exploited.

Please empower yourself and make a choice. Take childbirth classes which will empower you or atleast read up and research. I am not saying this bcoz I am one and I am selling myself. I genuinely care that women stand up for their rights and demand the best.

    Re: normal delivery

Can exercise alone make a vaginal delivery possible? Possibly not, but it is a good first step. This is the right time to start preparing yourself mentally for labour and look at a birth plan that you can discuss with your doctor. While exercises, both yoga (pranayama) and stretching, will help with vaginal delivery, what will be more potent is being well-informed about what labour would entail and what are the interventions your doctor has planned for that. And yoga is never to be performed without a guru, most certainly not when you are in the last leg of pregnancy.
Are you enrolled in Child Birth Classes. I would suggest you do immediately. For one, Child Birth Classes will tell you how labour happens, what are the various stages and how you can prepare yourself for it. A forum is not a good place to get that advice.
They will also teach you exercises that help you limber up for labour. The breathing exercises will show you how to pace yourself out. But if you are say, asthmatic, and you learn an exercise off the internet and end up getting a bad asthma attack, than can easily push you into premature labour. I am asthmatic and I was advised not to do certain exercises and do certain others. The forum members, however well-informed they be, cannot give you tailor-made information.
I went into labour with premature rupture of membrane at 34 weeks, it was scary, but the breathing exercises totally helped me relax and go through the second stage labour. I had a vaginal birth even though many of my friends were foretelling a c-section. A pitocin-augmented vaginal birth without pain relief *swoon*. But here I am living to tell you it is possible, if you know what is happening with your body and preparing for it.
Birth India is a non-profit organisation that helps/empowers women have that vaginal, minimally medicated delivery and this is their Bengalooru contact, do talk to an expert, please.

Hasini, this is a very interesting thing your doctor says. I know of 9 lb-ers born vaginally and at home with mid wife support. So, could you please bolster your arguments here by citing some of the studies your doctor spoke of, or studies that you have read.
And no, C-section is a major surgery and has its own complications. General anaesthesia, if used, can cross over the blood stream into the baby. So c-section is not, and never was, fine. C-section can result in infections and I know of at least one mother dying of septicaemia (not trying to scare you ladies, this was my aunt). C-section interferes with lactation. I can go on and on, really. C-section is a life-saving measure, but do you really need anti-cancer drugs for fever. Likewise C-s are not a fix-it for every labour.

Manju, even breech presentation does not mandate c-sections. Here is totally interesting read. You may find it interesting that a study of Chennai Hospitals showed that most of the c-sections happened at around 4 to 6 pm (A doctor from Christian Medical College, Vellore presented this paper three years ago, will find it for you.) And the c-section rates in corporate hospitals in Chennai was at around 50 percent. I found out yesterday it was much higher.
No, a lot of c-section depends on just the doctor's ethics, not medical exigencies. A lot of c-sections are completely unnecessary, not when you have a preemie not when you are past your due date. My sister/MIL/friends have all had vaginal delivery at 41 weeks.
Take charge of your labour. Whatever is happening is happening to you FIRST and then your baby. Of course, there are true emergencies, talk to your doctor openly and after educating yourself. Find out from your doctor before hand what situations can arise and how best to tackle them. Look up peer-reviewed sites .i.e. sites where it states a doctor has reviewed the information that a doctor wrote, for what the options your ob talking about means. If your ob is not helpful, shop around for another. There are so many obs out there who treat people as people not just their work.
