    hey sunita,

excellent tutorial. Thank u so much for explaining it so brilliantly.

I've made a paper draft. I'll go ahead sew it and reply u again.

By the way, are u a fashion designer , or did u take a private tuition from usha/ singer sewing machine makers? Just eager to know.

    thank u so much,

    sabari

    hi,

That's a v. easy one. i hope u know the neck calculation for this type of chudi. If u didn't know, then :

-take the neck measurement & apply neck/6 formula for the front neck.
    - for the back neck : 1/2" down.
    -
Collar [ cloth to be in fold both lengthwise and widthwise]
    --------------------------------------------------------

    take the collar width : neck/2 - 1/2"
    take the collar length : 1.5 - 2"

Give the collar the shape by cutting 0.5" inwards towards the loose ends along the width . So, the width on top [ with fold] :
    neck/2 - 1/2"

width ofcollar on bottom [ loose ends]:
    neck/2 - 1/2"-1/2" =neck/2-1

collar stitching requires so much practice. If u have sewn a shirt collar u'll be able to do this one too.

And don't forget, the collar should stop atleast 1" before the centre of the front neck on each sides.

    best of luck,
    sabari

    Hi Sabari,

I am glad that you found the instructions useful. Are you referring to the patiala salwar? I am not a fashion designer but would like to design some day. SO I am currently learning sewing from Usha school and practicing & experimenting. Please do post the pictures once you complete sewing.

    hi rubi,

i'm happy that u got it. I've tried this on my own salwars many years before and ppl were impressed with the looks.

This one is especially great if tried on a stiff cotton one.

    regards,
    sbari.

    Hi sunita,

yes, i was referring to the patiala salwar. I learnt sewing from an authorised instructor from meritt singer, who was running her own sewing school.

I've a usha janome fashion stitch. I keep trying many designs and patterns with this one.

So once i complete my patiala salwar, i shall post it immediately.

thank u so much once again,
    sabari

    Hi Sabari,

I will wait for you to complete the salwar and post the pictures. I need one help from you. You have been sewing for long time and so must be knowing some tips and tricks about this. I have a problem with the sleeves when sewing. The Seam of the sleeve and that of the bodice sometimes do not line up. Or sometimes, the front and back arm hole seam lines of the sleeves, also do not line up. I hope you are able to understand this. So my question is what is the way of measuring this and drafting? If you can give some inputs, I will really appreciate. Thanks in advance.

    hi sunita,

" The Seam of the sleeve and that of the bodice sometimes do not line up. Or sometimes, the front and back arm hole seam lines ..."
    sorry , i don't get them.

But, one thing i understand is that u have a problem in ataching the sleeve to the arm-hole. There are many nuiances involved; if u could explain them in detail, i sure can help u out, i think.

I went thru' y'r article again and again to understand it. can u pos spot out y'r problem:

    1. Do u fell the sleeve puffed out/ puffed up?
    2. Is the alignment of the sleeve with the arm-hole of the body incorrect?
    3. Do u tag the sleeve with the arm hole of the body before sewing?
    4. Is y'r arm-hole and sleeve cutting for front and back same or different?
If u remember , after making the cutting for arm hole and sleeve, we draw the curves inwards and make a second cutting.

If u identify y'r problem with any of the above listed, pls get back to me.

    regards,
    sabari
