    Dear friends,

Lot of you know that i have a small terrace garden in my apartments. I even have talked about composting. wanted to post some more pictures..

Recently I have given away the lemon tree and banana tree that i was growing in pots..

I got this yellow hibiscus 15days back. and it has taken to transplanting well..
I have some more plants on agenda, but waiting to do it after some roof repairs that are pending and also after coming back from vacation...(God save my plants)

Here is the update on the plants and also the compost that i have left to dry and have to collect for the next set of plants namely betel/henna/some greens...

(The mangoes are from the neighbours tree couldn't resist capturing it on cam..Big LaughBig Laugh)

    Dear Shanthi,

Thanks for keeping a green environment.

Can you share what is compost? how to do that? Is it organic?

    Andal,

My son is an environment enthusiast.infact he wants us to buy some land for his nature club..(I would have talked about his pestering me somewhere too)

the compost i make as i have posted here. and once i feel it is ready, I dry them and collect it for the next pot. again the peels are poured for the next round..and try to remove earthworms that are in the plants at least 2 of them into the bucket....

Nowadays you get a composting pots in some exhibitions according to a hindu article, which showed colorful dust bins in clay too..don't remember the address.

I have aloevera, omam, tulasi and all for medicinal purpose. intending to have henna, betel and some other plants too for the same purpose..

It is nice hobby yaar, and my daughter is also interested, she helps me in moving the pots around and all..

    Hi Shanthi:

Your terrace garden looks lovely. The yellow shade of the hibiscus is beautiful. I have 2 plants in my balcony right now:) and needless to say, my hands are itching to get dirty with plants, pots and mud! I don't know what I am waiting for though!

I'm tempted to start composting but that we only have a balcony is stopping me - I'm concerned about the smell though I have read that if the composting materials are of the right mix, the smell isn't something you have worry about.

Good to know that your children are both interested in gardening, it increases your interest in whatever you are doing if you have company - my opinion:)

    Thanks for sharing!

    Sindhu
