    Dear Smt Padma,

There are such rules, but applicable for a Samooha Parayanam only. As you know in samooha parayanam, one person would be dedicated to doing the karpoora Arathi before the picture of Sri Guruvayoorappan after every dashakam. But when you do the Parayanam at home, it is not at all necessary (but no harm in doing so, either) to do these things. If you follow all the rules of a Samooha Parayanam, it could take substantially more time to complete the Parayanam. As for special offerings, at the start of Sampoorna parayanam you use Thrimadhram neivedyam. For Sri Ramavatharam, you have 'vadai' neivedyam, for Sri Krishnavatharam it's Paalpayasam, for Narasimhavatharam it's Paanakam, for Kuchelacharitham, the traditional Aval..there is a list. I don't remember all of them, as in our home we follow the practice of paal payasam only as neivedhyam for all dashakams. After all, the glory of Bhagavan Srikrishna occupies the bulk (from Dashakas 36-89) of the text. Hope this helps.

    Regards
    Hari

    Dear Sri Hari,

Thank you for clarifying my doubts. I also felt that Paal Payasam is the preferred neivedhyam, specially if one can prepare it as they do in Guruvayoor. With Lord Krishna's blessings, I will try.

I saw your reply to my friend Vidya about the yahoogroup. Seems very interesting.

    Thanks a lot,

    Padma

    Dear Smt Ambige,

I would be happy to help you with slokas from Narayaneeyam, to the best I can. If you search in google for Narayaneeyam also you would come across weblinks giving the complete text online. Let me know if you have any issues with pronouncing the slokas.

    Regards
    hari

    Dear ksv,

You can chant the last Dashakam, Kesadhipaada Varnanam daily.
Tradition says that this dashakam was inspired by a direct vision that Melpattur had of Bhagavan Narayana. The depth of feeling you will find in these verses is immeasurable.

    Regards
    Hari

    Dear Hari Sir,

I am so thrilled to see this thread on Narayaneem. I wish i was in chennai or any other city. i would love to be able to read or recite the narayaneem.
One lady rightly mentioned that Guruvayoorappan lead you to him.
You will not beleive my MIL who is no more would chant the Narayaneem dashakas every day. He is our Ishta Devatha. We do have our KUla Daivayam devi. but she told us that we should pray to Lord guruvayoouAppan . he will be our protector.
My big mistake is i never bothered to learn anything from her, now i wish i did.
i finally learnt the last Dahsaka ( Agre Pashcayami-- which ends with YOgendraanam)
i Say the ten slokas everyday twice. My son suddenly took ill and i am hoping Guruvayoour appan will forgive me for ignoring him all these years.
incidentally i got a narayaneem Cd as a gift. and now i am thinking may be the LOrd wants me to say more of the slokas.
i am going thru theweb to see if i can catch the text to match my CD.
some of them are hard to download. I really wish i had a english tras book. i manage to read sanksrit in english. alaong with the CD i will manage.
i willl check into the yahoo gruoup you mentioned.
i must heartliy thank you for your replies and the posts on the subject.
if youhave a skype narayaneem classes i would willingly join.
    i

I am confused at the daskas you mentioned. perhaps if you have time do give us detailed instructions as how to start the chantings.
    All help will be appreciated.

    thumbs up to you.[IMG]
