Its very difficult for working mothers to leavetheir children and go to office. Those days when I was working there was no phone at home. I had to leave home by <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:time Minute="30" Hour="7">7.30 a.m.</st1:time> in the morning and come home by 6.30 or 7. p.m.

In the beginning I used to travel by train so if the trains arelate then I used to be late.Luckily my husband used to come home early and look after the children. He used to work next station but still he had to go by train and from there by bus to his office. He used to have Wednesdays off and myself Saturday and Sunday. He used to leave by <st1:time Minute="0" Hour="7">7 a.m.</st1:time> and come home by 4.30.p.m.

We used to leave the children under the care of a servant and till I come home I used to get worried. Since it was a must for me to go to work I used to go. If grandparents are there no problem , children will be in safe hands.

The servant who was with me, her husband had left her so she used to feel jealous because I used to go to work and my husband used to take care ofme and my children and help me in house work.

When my younger daughter went to 4th Standard after that they used to take care of themselves. We stopped the servant. They had problem for four days in a week as two days I used to be at home and one day my husband used to be at home.

Somehow by God's grace my children grew up. After my elder daughter got married I took VRS from my Company as our Company was taken over by someone else. Now they are all married and well settled.

    Dearest Viji ,

Your glimpses into your past are always a welcome snippets in IL.:thumbsup

All is well that ends well so finally your efforts paid off and your children are well settled now.My mom was a homemaker and we siblings always had her by her side when we needed her. With the changing paradigm in working woman it is not only the necessity which drives off women to work only but also financial independence among other contributing factors.I think kids are growing up too fast now and understand the work pressures their parents have to face and support them.

You train memoirs always bring back the good old days I had back in India.:thumbsup

    Dear Viji,

These days it is absolutely essential that women work ,cause the financial support is very much needed at almost every home.
Yes there are a lot of compromises to be made, but I guess a lot of help is available in the form of the inlaws and creches ( which are now made available in most workplaces too)...servants...

But I guess women are known to be great multitaskers and can perform their duties with so much elan.
I know lots of compromises have to be made but if there are supportive people around, then its all worth it.

    Good blog Viji,

    Love,
    Devika

this issue of children leaving behind by working mothers are really emotionally hurting .
I am being very lucky that in spite of my job demands & irregular hours of working I could always keep an eye on both my daughters As the living quarters were always & still a road across my hospital & I got Good maid working from last so many years.

    Dear Sabitha

Good to know that your mother was there to take care. Though I was working my husband was always supportive so could manage everything.
Good to know my post brought back your old memories.

    Hi Viji,

Some working mothers still have problems when they have no one to look after the children while they are away at work. So it's usually a matter of sharing work schedules between the spouses or having a dependable maid at home. There are many day-care centres and cheches in the workplace nowadays which is a boon to working moms. In our case, I am lucky that my son and DIL are with us and we help to look after little Avyay.

Viji, all your posts bring out little snippets of life which most of us take for granted. I really like the way you write about them.

    Padma

    Dear Devika

I agree to whatever you have said. If we have support from others then working is not a problem. My husband was agreatsupport for me when I was working and at times others in his familyalso used to help.

    love
