LOL. Didn't think about the 'danger' till you mentioned. I was just happy the snippet struck a chord with the readers. : ) I have noticed though that I am doing the recalling stuff from the past more often now-a-days. : ) Though the other day when I told Jr. to wait at least 1 second after light turns green, he muttered 'ok boomer' that I didn't catch but was duly conveyed to me later by little Ms. Truthful (Satya). Jr. got an earful about getting the birth years and pejorative information right.

QUOTE="Rihana, post: 4173275, member: 34666"]Yes, they become like brand new. I find it more satisfying than even the time we visited the U.S. Mint in DC and watched through the glass as the money went through the printing process.
:hello:Wow That reminds me my visit with family & MIL to currency Note Press Nashik on the way to Shirdi. While my daughter being a child not allowed and made to sit in GM ‘s cabin reception area, Mr Sivaram, IAS - took us on tour all over the press. We had walked over money printed on huge rolls of paper discarded on floor and some piled up in corner. Entire press smelling i ported intaglio ink. I had the opportunity to custom clear and arrange rake for despatch ex Bombay port trust to CNP railway siding imported paper, ink and even coin blanks during 1979- 82.

    2. Actually now I am hoping anybody who tries washing will remember to wash it very gently, almost like washing a thick paper. Or tries to wash only a small value paper money.

On when I had hand washed my dad’s clothes, I got few currency notes in his white trouser after it dried up.
Since we had no ironing machine ( neither coal nor electric), my mom told me to iron it by using already heated a flat cooking utensil. It turned out nice.

    3. Now my kids are older but earlier, we used to take the coins to the Coinstar coin counting machine once in 1-2 years. Was quite a ceremony going to the store with the coins in a pillow case.

This reminds me first few months in erstwhile Bombay when I know not much spoken or written local Hindi or Marathi. It became difficult to remember the Hindi equivalent of numbers particularly the quarter , Half and three fourths. Like dade, pawna and adayee . Every transaction, I used to tender a fiver or tenner and used to get balance in coins. In about three months, my steel trunk - quarter of it - full of coins of various denominations. My room mate suggested to carry it to bank to convert to currency notes.

    4. Thank you, Thyagu. Coming from you, that is high praise. One day, when motherhood is more relaxed and less demanding, I will spend more time and write a bit like you with more attention to the little details. : ) God willing. : )

A thanks from veteran - heart warming indeed. You have nicely hinted brands of yore and made subtle suggestions in this post itself stands as visible proof of your ability to observe and remember and recall minute details as and when needed. Your word for it -percipient - I learnt from one of your FB on my post.

    5. True. While ironing the dollar bills in December, I was recalling all the ironing I have done including some image transfers. Hemming drapes recently, I kept trying to make the stitches as small and invisible as possible on the "outside" just like my mother and craft teacher tried to make me do.[/QUOTE]

The word “ironing” has an indelible impression on me.
While in my standard IX Tamil -English Final exam, there was a question for translating to tamil from English - a passage from “my experiments with truth” - MG describes his harrowing time of apartheid in South Africa. He describes how he was compelled to wash and iron his clothes. At that age, I was knowing the word “ iron” only as metal and found difficult to translate into tamil meaningfully. Because i never had occasion then to know iron could also mean “pressing & free clothes from wrinkles”. The word isthri only was in vogue.

God - what a dud I was - You turned into “what a dad” ...

Rihana, awesome snippet! You never disappoint.

Liril, Margo, Rexona, Hamam! Long-forgotten soaps! Reminded me instantly of the iconic Liril waterfall ad.

You write beautifully. Some day I hope to read a book by you.

Congratulations on the well-deserved FP win.

This darn Covid-19 virus is supposedly alive for a whole day on cardboard and currency, but can go on living on much harder surfaces like countertop or table top for 3 days.

One girl in Taiwan tried to clean her currency by heating it up. :frown::facepalm: In a Microwave Oven. Went too far, and charred her bills.

The picture shows the bank teller, who identified the bills individually, and replaced the money. <source>

I heard someone telling me in bazaar that her wet virus mobile restarted only after cooked in prestige cooker. I guess it is a joke.
