Looking for recommendations of ready-made shampoo that help to reduce dandruff. There seem to be so many brands of anti-dandruff shampoos now and a whole range of choices within each brand.

Head & Shoulders, Nizoral, Selsun, .. the list is endless. Within Selsun, there are 9 types!

Any particular brand or shampoo you recommend?

This is for a regular Indian medium-oily scalp with a mild to medium dandruff problem that shows up every winter. Only looking for shampoo recommendations that can bought in store or online without prescription, not looking for home-made recipes or other dandruff solutions. The young person in question will not use any home-made stuff.

Most of the commercially made store bought anti dandruff shampoos are loaded with chemicals such as zinc pyrithione and ketoconazole along with synthetic fragrance and colors.

Back in 2013 I used most of the above in a span of 6 to 8 months,as a result it damaged my hair making it extremely dry and frizzy, introduced split ends, lost my thick beautiful hair while the dandruff kept recurring :(

Please research well about the side effects before using any of the above shampoos you mentioned.

I highly recommend Buy Kesha Shudhi Shampoo Online | Andariki Ayurvedam Online. This product is coming from a reputed Ayurvedic Physician Dr Elchuri who has a local pharmacy in Hyderabad. Years ago he hosted several Ayurvedic shows in Maatv and Zee Telugu. I had personally been to his clinic and took medicines from his pharmacy. The doctor recommended applying Neem oil (after mixing it with coconut oil) on the scalp before washing the hair.He also mentioned about diet and digestion that plays a vital role.

The only downside is that the products can only be bought in store or online with the delivery being restricted to India. I got a few products shipped here through my parents (prescription not needed). It would be great if the young person in question can try this product twice or thrice a week for several months.

Alternatively the young person can try Amazon.com : Khadi Mauri Herbals Anti Dandruff Herbal Shampoo, 210ml : Beauty.A friend of mine uses Khadi products and is happy with the results. Khadi, Khadi Natural,Khadi Mauri are manufactured by rural industries.

Try OGX teatree+mint shampoo & conditioner
    OGX is sulphate free shampoo
    Available in Walmart, target.

If your near by Indian stores have any herbal anti-dandruff shampoo you can buy that too.
Patanjali one was good but not available consistently.

Try Dhathri Dheedhi shampoo. It’s herbal and the hair smells good after the shower.
I had tried seba-med anti dandruff shampoo for my daughter and it was effective for her

I have found 'head and shoulders lemon fresh shampoo' useful for dandruff treatment.
If there is head acne or severe conditions( Itchy, Flaky Scalp due to Psoriasis & Seborrheic Dermatitis) Neutrogena T/Gel Extra Strength Therapeutic Shampoo is very effective.

I have been using "Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Shampoo" by the brand "Not your mother's"- (Quite a mouthful for a shampoo!!!) since last couple months and I really like it. Dandruff is not completely gone yet but flaking is less. I also wrap my head in a warm towel for 5 mins after oiling, just before washing off - this is just once a week.

Soak fenugreek seeds (1 tbsp) overnight, make a paste and apply it on your scalp in the morning. Leave it for 45 minutes, it will soak up all the heat and avoid dandruff formation. You can also try curd. Wash it off with shampoo or shikakai or soap nut powder. Drink a lot of water. If you cannot try the above remedy, you can try massaging your scalp with castor oil or coconut oil before you take a bath. Head and shoulder shampoo is best for dandruff, but as others mentioned, it is artificial and has chemicals in it. You might not want to use it often, more like once in 6 months. I have also heard tea tree oil shampoo is good. I haven't used it so far though.
