Reading this thread over the holidays, I was fondly recalling many similar jhagdas (arguments) we have had over the years. On my part: elaborate cooking for dinner parties, planning and conducting the games for kids' birthday party myself, painting multiple rooms by ourselves. On DH's part: assembling complicated exercise equipment himself, installing DISH antenna on top of two-storey house by himself, wall-mount 65" or 70" TV installation, changing garbage disposal or kitchen sink faucet, doing taxes himself over an entire weekend while both the kids and I are down with flu and it is April 13 : )...

When the kids are still younger than 7 or 8 years old, such activities can impact the entire family even if one person is doing most of the work. My elaborate cooking meant DH had to take care of the kids more and clean the house more than he would if we got some food from outside. His garbage disposal DIY meant the water was switched off and the entire kitchen floor out of bounds for the kids as it was filled with kitchen cleaning supplies, and he was lying on the floor, head under the sink, every 20 minutes asking me to fetch a tool I couldn't recognize : )

His installing the wall-mount TV himself meant at least 3-4 times I had to help by holding up the heavy TV.. I would have to drop whatever I am doing and go help while the kids were also totally my responsibility that weekend. : ) DH used to put really light marks on the wall with pencil for where to drill the holes. We are holding the TV to the wall and he is unable to see the faint marks he has made earlier. : ) Meanwhile, my Prestige cooker needs to be lowered to simmer flame just as my blood reaches boiling point. : ) I lost it one time and gave it to him, "It is not my souten ki maang ka sindoor you are putting. Put a darker line on the wall next time"*

Time flies... Now with the kids much older and able to drive, we have all the time for such projects and often tell the other, "Don't start without me."

*(It is not your other wife's hair parting where you are putting sindoor, put a darker line on the wall)

    Haha!!! So true.
This reminded me that what described above is a very accurate description of our life too. In the initial years of marriage, we always have a fight right before guests arrive, now married to him for 10 years, I tell him " let's argue on something and get that fight over with, so that we don't forget to do it".

ROFL. : ) Ditto. We used to have a big fight and be sitting with angry faces on the sofa waiting for the guests to arrive. Is hilarious to now recall how quickly we used to switch to cheerful face when the bell rang. : )
