Hi! What kind of glass milk pot do you have? Link/pic please? We boil milk several times in just one morning, and it's tiresome to keep scrubbing the pots before throwing them in the dishwasher.. why do you use glass, what is the advantage?

    Need tips and suggestions:
Just a quick background before i post my questions.
I got married a few months back and shifted to another city.
To begin with, I am blessed with better in laws than husband. My H and SIL lost their mother at young age and were raised by father and grandparents. My grand MIL is 94 :)
i come from a religious neat freak house. in laws are neither religious nor close to being neat freaks.
They are v practical and dont expect me to cook also, they have a maid to cook, clean and mop and a lady to tc of grand mil. i cant bear the sight of un-folded clothes and can fold them spontaneously even at stores!
H bought a house before wedding two floors above. We practically spend whole day at in law's. I tried taking the daunting task for cleaning two homes (in laws' is 3bhk). but, i felt drained out after a point.
Now, bed bugs have infested both homes and after watching me cry they got pest control done. They were first spotted downstairs.
But, their attitude towards dirt is worrisome. They have befriended the bugs and state that they will never go. How will they if the house is so cluttered!
I am unable to explain to them that cleanliness is required atleast to keep them away. I must have read so much about getting rid of bugs that i can certainly write one pager note.
i dry cleaned all my clothes and am sending them home. i have kept sloppy clothes here even to go to work. i wash every dress with hot water; sun dried my other items. they are still bagged and stored on terrace. i dont mind them getting stolen but id collapse to see them infested.
I bagged all other items which may have been infested in dustbin bags. the infestation hasnt reduced even after pest treatment. BTW, in laws did none of these and i wonder how pest control worked with so much of clutter!

Request you to share information on the following:
    1. How long does it take to get rid of pests completely ?
    2. Tips that i can adopt everyday to reduce the infestation of eggs democratically moving around on the walls.
    3. How do i explain to them to take cleanliness seriously.

It has been less than 6 months since i got married and i dress up like a slob because i cant dry clean everyday or throw hot water on my clothes and spoil them.

Will appreciate constructive opinions than getting into in laws bashing as i cant afford to jeopardize relations at this stage when the set up is good except for cleanliness.

If you can first organize, get rid off things that are never used/too old/not needed. Then a deep cleaning before pest control might help. You might want to get hired help for this deep cleaning task. You may have to do deep cleaning several times and then keep it clean. Your habits of keeping clean and seeing the clean house might change their mind.

Also, try tea tree oil to get rid of bed bugs. It has a strong smell and will repell them. I used to spread cloves/ cloves powder to repel them.
If your in laws have been living like that for so long, It will not be easy for you to change them now.

Agreed. But I don't have the right to get rid of their stuff. I can try in my house. But in in-laws it's difficult. My SIL' stuff takes up almost the entire house

Meanwhile I'll be doing deep cleaning for my house through agency. The house is nearly empty as I have quarantined them. Hope it reduces a little. Has anyone tried steam cleaning the wall?

A long time ago, I found a few bed bugs when I moved into a new apartment. I kid was 6 month old and I didnt want to have bed bugs bite her. So i used tea tree oil. There was never a full fledged infestation.

Some 7 to 8 years back, our bedrooms on the first floor had got infested with bedbugs. This, we presumed would have come through the bag/clothes that were emptied by my younger son on the bed in his room, after return from a trip to a nearby city. Most probably from the hotel that he would have stayed! As we had both the floors to ourselves, we moved downstairs to sleep in the hall and adjoining room and completely cordoned off the top floor with the bedrooms. The pest control people did complete fumigation of the top floor . We were told to move in after changing all sheets, curtains etc after some 2 days. After moving on top, we got the lower floor also fumigated completely. Eversince, there has been no infestation at all.
You will need to get the complete house fumigated in batches, and then change fresh drapes every where. Fumigation well done, will yield good results as experienced by us.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. We considered fumigation but there was a death in a city where I live few months back due to this process. I also have to be mindful that my grand MIL is 94 and has breathing problems. I myself fell ill due to smell of chemical pest control boy sprayed. I wonder what will happen to her !
