Please to kindly focus on the two articles shows in the pictures, which are sindoor applied in the hair parting by married women, and wedding ring worn on a finger.

Are these similar to each other in their intended purpose? How are they different? What makes women wear them?

Looking for a compare/contrast of these two articles vonly -- sindoor and wedding ring. So, please do not bring in the other common signs/symbols of a married Indian woman.

I would go first but first I have to stop ROFLOL each time I see Priyanka Chopra with those sunglasses and sindoor. I am all for east meets west, and Indian women look sexy and glamorous when they mix modern with tradition, but, something about these sunglasses cracks me up.

I don’t mind the rings, sindoor or mangalsutra, specially on newly married women. It has its own charm.
My only gripe is why do we Indian women have to go that extra mile with showing we are freshly taken? Indian men can get away with just a ring.

I think those rings are quite nice. The big sindoor smear on the hair-part and even the forehead bindi seem too dressy for everyday wear. The ring is enough to show that you had been taken. [Even nuns wear them to show that they had been taken by the church/lord, and in the man's world where titled property is usually not trespassed, that ring offers a bit of security against violence in remote areas where some nuns are send to minister to the heathens]

She has paired those sunglasses with other modern rather I would put western dresses too which looked good. But this pair as you said deserves a rolling emoji. :roflmao:.
Too good a priced possession to leave it back home? She carried it to India during her wedding.

Few instagram comments were nasty for that pic. A bad selection of Sabyasachi Saree, mismatched sunglasses with heavy sindoor invited some nasty comments.

The immediate comparison was with Deepika who chose subtle colors of Sabyasachi outfits for post wedding activities.

Something is wrong with that picture, very phunny!
I think, the glasses have come down a lot, on her nose, and choice of glasses is bad, she could have gone without one.
Seeing all these pictures, looks like sindoor is back in fashion.

Sindoor is the equivalent of ring. 100 years back, may be there was no ring and sindoor existed without any competition. Why did it start? May be signal the married status. Thali in south, has to be hidden at all times, but sindoor shows on face...May be it has to do with moguls. To save the girls, they were given the vermillion mark. Who knows?

I have always wondered about sindoor and was told by many that it leads it hair fall, and that, it has some nasty chemicals. Who knows?

Sindoor maybe worn by stars because it is red? and it shows off the face!

Ashwarya wore a lot of sindoor in all her post marriage pictures- praying at various temples...it was like yesterday, she got married and I was wondering if she is impressing her FIL by wearing so much of sindoor or she thinks she looks good with it.
May be she really loves her husband, who knows?

    Yes..

Keeping this Sindoor is not our custom but a custom in the place where we moved soon after marriage. I got tempted to follow their custom and brought a sindoor stick and started using it. Didn't go overboard like those celebrities though. And after a few days I noticed the portion where I used to apply, the hair started receeding there. So I stopped.

No need to go back to 100 years. Even in recent times Sindoor plays a role to protect the girls from Lurkers.
I'll tell my experience. A pervert at my workplace was attracted to me (that's what he told me) and in a couple of instances this guy moved around my desk making inappropriate physical touch. I ignored thinking it could be by mistake.
It's a small office with just fewer employees. And one such Saturday there were not many present in office this guy came to me and asked me to accompany him to terrace when I left office to go home. I denied and he said something like he likes me and is attracted or something and came close to almost plant a kiss on my face . I walked away pushing him and quickly made my way to parking lot, took my vehicle and went home without looking back. (should have slapped him but didn't ) . Came home and a detailed email to my boss resulted him getting fired next day.
I even wrote about his inappropriate touch during earlier occasions. After that my boss (in his 60s) then told me I did the right thing standing up against a harrassmnet and said the guy was in defence saying he didn't know I was married. In any case touching a girl inappropriately is not acceptable. Married or unmarried doesn't matter. And he deserved to be expelled from the office.

The boss (who is a gem of a person) hinted me to keep Sindoor so that it keeps the lurkers/perverts away.

So definitely this Sindoor has some significance.

But having said that it's a style statement for these celebrities ,going overboard with long sindoor lines..

Did I keep sindoor after that??
No I didn't . My hair was important than anything else and learnt how to stay away from such guys without a Sindoor.
