This beautiful thought reminds me story of King Arthur and the boy in a ship. Whole night he could block the entry of sea water into the ship through a crevice on the side wall of the ship less frequented thus preventing ship being sunk. Eventually it lead to king emerging triumphant in the war. (if act of young is to be included as some form of suggestion)

2. Bouquets and brickbats upon advice from young and old, from junior or senior, from opposition parties are frequent.

3. It reminds me of Russian President Nikitha Khrushchev questioned the prudence of Nehru constructing huge bridge across BEAS river spending thousands of crores near enemy territory. This advice well taken by pandit Nehru for projects near then undivided Pakistan.

5. Realising the value of suggestions and their importance, certain companies have rewarding system for its employees best suggestion that was accepted implemented resulted in substantial savings.

6. The converse of this theme might also be useful for discussion here. Some are hesitant to give out their suggestions in open meetings for fear of being ridiculed.

7. Suggestions even if it is clearly sound and pragmatic, MILs find delectable pleasure in its outright rejection if it comes or originates from SIL or her ilks. suggestions by a (literate or highly educated) DIL is invariably unwelcome by a (illiterate or moderately educated or accomplished) MIL. Modern highly educated DILs proudly insist their suggestions implemented by MILs.

8. Relationship is a ship which can sail well if suggestions from others irrespective of their age is given due consideration, analysed for mutual benefits. It was my son who had suggested when he was around twelve that I should take to writing to news papers and magazines. When I did write and seen it print, received comments from public, it gave me joy and thrills besides monetary gains.

9. Kudos to @periamma - Rightly this post suggests advice be taken & given irrespective of age without apprehensions and fear of being branded “unsolicited”.
