What silly? While other old coots in my retirement home might prefer prim corduroys, the jill-bill in me intends to disembark from the motorbike flaunting those "distressed jeans" flashing my savage tattoos through those rips even in the least flattering and wobbly joints. Let the other fogeys clad themselves in awe of my outrageous fashion! I might have to be careful after wash to dry them securing a steady hold on the clothesline. But you would be around for me to inquire the drying techniques for such slotted outfits.

Coq au rasam? You need to improve on your retelling of homely dishes. Stop calling it rasam!

Was reading something last night, when a botched-up translation leveled a saintly mathematician to a witch.

"In mathematics, the witch of Agnesi is a cubic plane curve defined from two diametrically opposite points of a circle.

Before Agnesi, the same curve was studied by Fermat, Grandi, and Newton. Grandi called the curve versoria in Latin and suggested the term versiera for Italian, possibly as a pun: 'versoria' is a nautical term, "sheet", while versiera/aversiera is "she-devil", "witch," and it was under this name that Maria Gaetana Agnesi studied it in her treatise Instituzioni Analitiche.

For whatever reason, after translations of the treatise, the curve has come to be called the Witch of Agnesi."

On occasion I open the fridge for making home-alone-lunch, and look at all those cooked and take-out left-overs as the raw materials to put together something that is photogenic.
After all, food has to be appealing to look at, before we can eat it. A stiff drink (like what Jeeves gave to that Newt-aficionado before the NA had to get up on stage and give the prizes away to the school boys) would help, but for that I have to wait till the clock goes past noon. We have a strict rule about that in our house.... alcoholic afternoon aperitif has to be after the noon hour. It is sort of like the rain in spain that has to stay in the plain.
Anyhow... I often make a cocktail of something to achieve a soup, and call it a lunch.
    An old conversation:
Novice: Master, why do we, the Chinese, eat with chopsticks ?
Priest: We have but a small bowl of rice, but a whole hour for lunch.

Restaurants are notorious for not complying with the Duck Test. "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck."

It looks like rasam, smells like rasam, tastes like rasam, still it is reserved dubiously as their painstaking concoction.

The remodified food tastes better than the réchauffé food. Sprinkle something, blend with something (add spinach next day to the plain daal), or in your case reprocess with leftovers as raw material. We both can survive the nuclear holocaust with our meager rations but inventive techniques in our underground bunkers fighting off those predatory zombies.

The novice must proceed to examine the cultural oddities.

Novice: Why are they called chopsticks when we are not chopping anything?
    Novalis: Chop means eat quickly.
Novice: The Priest just told me an hour for lunch.
Novalis: That's an oxymoron, festina lente, "make haste slowly"
Novice: Should I eat fast or slow?
Novalis: You should inquire with Amulet for rasam in sticky rice that would make you slurp even the slowest food with hastened delight.

Novice and Novalis sound so alike !!
"Kung Fu" is an old old American TV serial drama ( a half American-half Chinese Child grows up in a monastery, and then travels to America to find his roots... yada yada...) with lots of conversations between a novice and a priest-teacher. All shown in flashback while the young-man (the child grows up in the Chinese monastery and then goes to America) is wandering in America.

The young novice is often called a "grasshopper" to remind him of that first meeting with his master-teacher.

To Celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of M.K. Gandhi on OCTOBER 2, 2019

The various international accents are so endearing to listen to in a familiar song.
The Chinese girl almost sounded Lata Mankeshkar'esque

We shall probably continue until there is a gold standard of pure evil, against which all step-parents and in-laws may be compared. After all, we had seen time and again that the most comforting thing is to read & appreciate a greater misery -- and thus not overdo the commiserate with the self.
Obviously there are a lot of girls in the world who suffer, but do not describe them on a forum such as this. Perhaps they lack the resources to get to an internet forum. Or have friends in real life in more dire situations.

One odd prior quote pops into my mind...

The gold standard of pure evil MIL was created in Bollywood: Lalita Pawar.
One twitch of the eye could send shivers down the Bahu’s spine.
