    I am planning to start Intermittent fasting (IF) from today..having taken the blessing of Ganesha yesterday by consuming all the prasadams ;).

    I did IF successfully last year and managed to loose some 10 + kilos but fell of the wagon due to some family issues and decided that I am going to start again and ensure that this time I manage to maintain IF as a lifestyle choice and embrace it.

    I have written a few notes for people who are new to IF.

    * I usually follow a 16:8 pattern with fasting 16 hours and an eating window of 8 hours. It may be difficult to start off with this , so I usually start with 12:12 and increase it to gradually to 16:8 in a couple of weeks time.

    * I start with morning breakfast/ coffee at 9 am with BF only, followed by a mid morning lunch and end with light dinner by 5pm. No food/ drink (other than water) after 5 until I break my fast the next morning.

    * Its difficult to serve food and control the hunger pangs (mostly psychological / imagined) during the dinner time 8 pm , so I ask my DH to help with this. I get all the food ready when I have my dinner and do not go the kitchen until the next morning. Also DH has to fend for himself and others to make their coffee in the mornings. This is my most difficult part ...not having the early morning coffee.

    * Most important point is to get back on track even if I messed up once or twice.

    I am starting this from today and hope I can finally discover the fit and energetic woman in me.

    Hope someone can join me in this quest so we can keep each other motivated.

    My starting weight 75.6 kgs

    Plan for this week.
    * no processed food like biscuits
    * finish dinner by 6.30 pm to start with.
    * drink 2l water
    * exercise/walk for 1 hr everyday(5-6days a week)

    Hi can you suggest your diet plan. Like what you eat generally in a day.
    Also after you stopped IF did you put on weight?

    I was doing keto for few months and left it. Now I want to do IF but not sure what to eat and wat not to.
    I’m a vegetarian so little confused

    Hi @shravs3 ,
    I didn’t follow a specific diet. Only replaced processed stuff like biscuits, noodles etc with fruits, nuts and other healthy snacks.

    I lost the weight very easily with regular diet ( healthy) and some moderate exercise... I managed to maintain it for abt 6 months after stopping IF but had some stress in the last 6 months and went back to eating comfort food and put on weight.
    I was nearly 79 kg last year and managed to loose 11 kgs in 2.5 months ... and remained at around 70 even after stopping IF.
    I feel having dinner early and not eating anything for at least abt 12-14 hrs really helps in maintaining weight.

    I am also a vegetarian... I have abt
    2 dosas / 3 Idlis with whatever side dish + coffee ( no sugar ) for breakfast around 9 am.
    Not just idli / Dosa — any other breakfast mostly South Indian like Upma / Pongal etc... basically same thing I make for every one in the family.

    Green tea / ACV with water around 11 am.

    Lunch is regular meals like rice , sambar, rasam ,any vegetable , curd @ 1.45 pm

    Again not a very small portion but a reasonable one. This is the main meal so I go as far as 450 -550 cals for this meal.

    I make a hot snack for kids after they come back from school .. so I eat with them and keep it a light meal and finish it with another coffee @5 pm.

    Nothing else after this meal until the next morning.
    I go for a evening walk for abt an hour.

    I have realised that south Indian food (which we have primarily) is a carb rich diet and I am used to it, so I can’t do a low carb diet without cooking separately for me. Usually I give it up in a few days also since it’s boring. This way with IF I am not changing my diet , but making a few healthy choices and basically skipping dinner which saves abt 400 cals and ultimately results in weight loss.

    I totally understand @magnashri . I am also slowly easing into it. I stopped eating at 6.45 yesterday ..but couldn't hold off my early morning coffee today . So, broke my fast at 6.45 today.
    Let try for a better day of fasting today.
