    Simply grand! Viji.
A good suggestion Anusha, following for decades. Also sieve the flour well so that it may not contain small mini sand or stone particle.

Krishnaakshtami offerings to god also includes Thattai - the flatter salty-snack item. I'd often think that those who had failed at cheedai, would repurpose the dough into Thattai, and the child-god Krishna would accept that with a smirk, I am sure -- a heavier disk in the oil cannot jump out. And besides, one could poke several holes in the flattened dough (using a fork tip) before we slide that into hot oil.

Yes yes. When we prepare the thattai holes from the fork goes by default.
Oh yes I have done that. When my cheedai burst I called my MIL who was in another city and she gave the same suggestion. Flatten it out and make. Krishna is seeing your efforts. He would still accept it for sure .. :grinning::grinning:

I am sounding like your mother (the half-saree comment) or your MIL. Now I wonder if we were all pressed through the same mold..... and pass on pretty much the same know-how of the various life-hacks to the generation after.

Talking of molds, we need a mold (like a small size ice-cream scoop) for cheedai dough. One could scoop, and perhaps roll only once in the palm (or not at all), and then drop it in oil.

This thing I purchased during my US visit. (not that it's not available here, some happiness that I brought from Amreeka) . Too big for a cheedai. And inside part won't be cooked.

BTW you are an amalgamation of my MIL and mom. Both are sweet ladies just like you are.:grinning:

amazon.in has melon-baller spoon that can scoop much smaller sizes. Normally used for making spherical melon balls for artistic serving. Look for it in actual stores, just to make sure that you get the proper cheedai size.

Moms can be sweet by staying close, and MIL do that by staying far enough away. Cyber-MIL' are the best MIL's, because they are always far enough away.:kissingheart:

Mom's a mile away. MIL is a step (a few steps) away in the next bedroom. :grinning:
    Moms are sweet. No doubt.
Unless I keep telling MIL is sweet my survival in the other bedroom few steps away would be a nightmare.

We are diverting the thread. :mask::neutral:

Never mind about Viji-aunty. You are still on topic, because KrishnaJayanti is when we expect children to come in and be playful.

All this diversion is cue for her to write another snippet (tag @iyerviji )about
    (1) how good she is or has been with her children and in-laws ?
    (2) can they make non-exploding cheedai's, and where did they learn that ?
    more in ReHAB thread.
