    Episode 24:

Tulasi was watching TV and Grandma was preparing breakfast for her.

“Maaa! It seems Amudha’s mother-in-law passed away” – Mary walked in as she gasped.

“Oh!!!! Good soul she was! Heard she got admitted in the hospital…. But” – Grandma

“Yeah…today morning she passed away it seems! I pity her husband at this age….” – Mary said softly

“Fine! Shall we go now? Are you ready?” – Grandma asked as she washed her hands and wiped it in her saree.

“Ready ma! I will just lock the house and come. Joyal has gone out with his dad” – Mary

In few minutes, both started walking towards Amudha’s house. They saw many people gathering towards Amudha’s house.

It’s a huge family na – Grandma started

“Yes ma. Very huge. Two of her sons has to come from foreign countries…. Seems they have already been informed and they are on the way” – Mary

“Amudha is managing everything all alone?! Even her husband is out of town na” – Grandma asked as they walked.

“May be yes! Her father in law is already aged and he is broken now” - Mary

Both Grandma and Mary reached their house and paid their respect. They stayed with Amudha till her relatives arrived. The house was getting crowded and then they decided to leave.

“If you need any help. Do call me” – Grandma told Amudha and Amudha wiped her tears.

“Thank you so much!” – Amudha said softly.

It was next day morning 7 and Grandma started to Amudha’s house at once.

“Any help needed Amudha?” – Grandma asked genuinely

“No…. Its okay. Please sit” – Amudha pulled a chair for Grandma

Grandma sat quietly and Amudha’a father in law was weeping quietly.

“Don’t worry anna. Please take care of your health!” – Grandma convinced him and he couldn’t stop.

“I didn’t know how important she is all these years…. Realized her value when she got hospitalized. But God is so cruel that he took away even after I realized my mistake” – The elderly man wept quietly.

Grandma looked around. Close relatives were sitting. Some with coffee tumblers. Some fiddling with their mobile phones. Some were guiding others over phone to reach the house.

“Have some coffee!” – Grandma made him have some coffee though he kept crying. After few hours, he wiped his tears and leaned on the wall with moist eyes.

“Uncle! Please send our house address to your relatives! Some are coming today! Only You have all their phone numbers. You can send them in group or to them personally” – Amudha handed him his mobile phone and he swiped it.

He was sending some messages, reading some messages, typing something and Grandma was sitting quietly.

It was around 3 o clock.....slowly everyone moved away from the living room. Some were sitting in terrace, some in the balcony, some at the entrance.

Grandma was sitting beside the elderly man who was lost in his thoughts.

“You didn’t have proper food…Shall I bring you something?” – Grandma asked with care.

“I wonder what are we…..” – elderly man.

    “What happened suddenly….” – Grandma

“I sent my house address to all my relatives…By then I checked the group to convey messages…. Few things I couldn’t understand or digest. “ – Elderly man said and Grandma looked puzzled.

“There has been many messages in the group yesterday. News about my wife and other news as well. The people who were genuinely crying here were found laughing and forwarding random troll messages in the group…. My own close relatives infact….I wonder…” – Elderly man

“No no…. yours is such a loving family. People are genuine….” – Grandma tried to convince

“I know my relatives are really worried about my loss! I saw that yesterday. “ – Elderly man

“Then what are you worried about…” -Grandma

“I wonder which is true, crying here or laughing in the phone? Which is their true face? Just that I don’t know today's people or they themselves don’t know which is their real feeling” – The elderly man asked and Grandma understood the depth in his question.

One minute we are feeling bad for someone or something reading a message. Before we feed bad or sympathize, we find ourselves laughing for something irrelevant seeing an other message.

"Are we a switch???.....Have we started changing our emotions minute per minute because of some random people or a random text message? Isnt that confusing...." - Grandma thought as she walked towards her home.

"May be even I dont understand today's world.....Just like him" - Grandma said to herself as she reached home.

Days passed. Veni and Krishna proved to be the toppers again and Madhavi was pushed to second position and sometimes third. The school Principal didn’t talk to Veni after that incident and Veni understood that her dad has used his influence from the education department.

Veni and Krishna continued to discuss about the subjects and preparations. And the students didn’t stop teasing them. Both learned to ignore that.

“Krishna! I think its going to be hectic” – Veni said as she walked beside him.

“Yes! Next few months!” – Krishna

“We got to balance our responsibilities and studies” – Veni

    “Yes” – Krishna

“we are lucky actually! To be part of such a huge exhibition organised by our school” – Veni

    “Yes” – Krishna

“Too many departments, too many projects, I wonder what we are going to do!” – Veni

“By the way, be careful! Madhavi might be waiting to pull you down! We have already seen enough in these months” – Krishna warned

“That’s right. One step wrong, she will pull me down with a proud smile” – Veni

    “Right” – Krishna

“Fine! See you tomorrow!” – Veni

    “Bye” – Krishna

Veni reached home and parked her cycle. She saw her brother climbing down the steps happily and a 100 rupee note fell down from his pocket.

“Nivin! Pick that up! Going to shop for buying something?” – Veni

“No Sis! Going to play with my friends” – Nivin said as he stuffed his pocket with that 100 rupees note.

    “But 100 rupees?!!” – Veni

“Mom gave me. This is my usual…” – Nivin started walking away.

“Usual? Why do you need money?” – Veni was surprised

“Oh God! This is my usual pocket money sis! Go and ask mom! Don’t waste my time” – Nivin ran way as he said.

Veni climbed the steps and the door was open.

She removed her shoes and looked for her mom.

“Maa……” – Veni walked into the kitchen seeing her mom cutting fruits.

“Yes! Your snacks is ready on the dining table” – Veni’s mom replied.

“Maa…Why do you give him 100 rupees?!!” - Veni

“Pocket money! So that he can buy what he wants! Your father is getting too busy these days building a new house again and I can’t go out every time. So I gave him money…Whats wrong?! He is just going to buy some snacks for himself… or may be for his friends” – Veni’s mom

“But….Maaa! He is not even 10” – Veni tried to explain her

“I know that! That’s why just 100” – Veni’s mom responded in such a way that it was clear that she is not ready for any discussion on that topic.

Veni reached her room thinking about Nivin and her thoughts diluted as her mobile beeped.

“Am sorry. I shouldn’t have done like that. Sorry if you were disturbed. I shouldn’t have proposed you on road. That too in front of our tuition centre. My bad. Sorry if you and your father had arguments because of me. I know how much you love your father! Sorry once again! Won’t disturb you anymore. Will you forgive me?” - Ashok

Veni was surprised seeing Ashok’s message. “Finally, good if he realized his mistakes.” - Veni sighed with relief.

“Its ok. Leave it” – Veni responded and left his message without saving in the contact list.

It was around 9 Saravanan reached home after a hectic day and Veni was winding up to sleep.

“Sleepy dear….?” – Saravanan asked as he stood near her room door.

    “Not much dad….” – Veni

“Shall we go to the terrace dear? “ – Saravanan

    “What happened dad?” – Veni

“Nothing. Just like that…” – Saravanan

Veni understood that her dad had an exhausting day and his only way to burst all the tiredness is her. He always did that. Spending time with her. She even got reminded of his words “I just forget all my tiredness if I see your smiling face! You are the lucky charm my sweetheart”.

“Veni dear! Do you have any test tomorrow? Got to wake up early?” – Saravanan

“Actually, yes dad! But few minutes would do!” Let’s take everyone to the terrace! You will be fine! Our family time makes you happy na” – Veni smiled

“My angel! Keep smiling like this” – Saravanan kissed his daughter on forehead as he smiled.

“Love you daddy” – Veni hugged him affectionately and both had no clue that there is going to be a storm in their relationship.

    Episode 25:

It was cloudy and drizzling and Tulasi opened her eyes slowly. She was surprised to see her grandma lying beside her.

She hugged her grandma with sleepy eyes and her grandma smiled at her.

“I have slight head ache dear! Its better that I lie down and rest for some more time.” – Grandma said softly and Tulasi touched her forehead at once.

“I will be fine dear” – Grandma smiled gently.

“Hmmm ok then! Let me the start the day” – Tulasi whispered as she got up.

She tip toed and stood behind the curtain as always and she already saw her sparrows happily eating. The more she saw them, the more brightened her eyes became. She smiled softly seeing one pushing the other and the others making noise.

“Good morning my darlings” – Tulasi whispered softly and Tulasi walked to the wash area.

She splashed her sleepy face with that cold water and it was refreshing and exciting. She combed her hair into a bun and opened the main door. It was soothing to see those thin strands of rain and she tip toed from the veranda. She took the broom stick and started sweeping the veranda and cleaned the lawn. She sweeped the entrance and started drawing Kolam (Rangoli). Joyal was already standing near the compound wall and he kept admiring her fresh face. Both had the habit of waking up early and Joyal tried his best to see her early morning face at once he wakes up.

“Good morning Sir!” – Tulasi pulled his legs all of sudden

“Very good morning madam! Grandma not well?” – Joyal

“Yes. Head ache! Am going to do the morning chores for her” – Tulasi said proudly

Soon Tulasi was immersed in drawing a big Kolam (Rangoli) and Joyal kept seeing her without his knowledge.

When Tulasi was done drawing Joyal was not there and she walked inside her house to do the chores.

“Maa.! I will prepare coffee for you!” – Tulasi said as she entered the kitchen and started preparing coffee.

    “Nice aroma….” – Mary entered

“Good morning aunty” – Tulasi smiled

“Good morning!” - Mary walked towards Grandma

“What happened ma…. Joyal said you are not well. I brought breakfast for you both” – Mary said as she sat beside grandma

“I will be fine Mary! And thank you” – Grandma got up slowly and sat.

As Tulasi was preparing coffee, She thought about Joyal.

“Very thoughtful he is” – Tulasi smiled

“Coffee for you both” – Tulasi served them with a wide smile.

“Too good dear! Aromatic and awesome” – Mary said as she had a couple of sips.

“Really?! Thank you, aunty,” – Tulasi said proudly.

“This is the only thing she is capable of when it comes to cooking” – Grandma said as she sipped.

“Maaa! Not everyone should cook! Not everyone can cook well! What to do…It turns to be a disaster when I try to cook something” – Tulasi

“Hmmmm! I feel she is going to learn from her mother In law finally. I had tried my best…. But couldn’t….” – Grandma

“Don’t worry ma! I will teach her” – Mary smiled

“I pity the one whom she is going to marry!” – Joyal entered with a smile

“Shut up” – Tulasi frowned seeing him

“Better marry someone who can cook for you or marry someone who has a loving mother to teach you” – Joyal pretended to be casual.

“Maa…. Look at him!!! Talking big things to a small girl like me” – Tulasi said and everyone laughed and Grandma kept looking at Joyal.

Days passed. Veni and Krishna were too busy with the exhibition at their school. Veni And Krishna chose biology projects. They had ample time to spend with each other. And as always, their discussions were on subjects and related topics. Though both had nothing in personal, Veni was quite comfortable with Krishna and Krishna got someone with whom he can discuss everything related to test preparations and studies. Krishna was the only friend Veni could earn in school. People didn’t stop teasing them but both responded through their marks and even the school management remained quiet seeing their discipline and marks.

That was the exhibition day. And everyone were too curious to see which department wins. Veni was made to stand in front of a human brain model and she was made to demonstrate. Krishna stood near a model of human nervous system and he explained more than his syllabus. Since it was open to public and other schools as well, Veni’s and Krishna’s project area were too crowded with the opposite gender.

“Uffff!!! Some five minutes of break finally” – Veni gasped as she walked to the canteen with Krishna

“Yeah!” – Krishna responded with single word.

“I could see only girls in your project area” – Veni giggled and Krishna flashed a nano second smile.

“You know to smile?!!” – Veni laughed and Krishna walked quietly.

“Hi…. You look very beautiful” – A random guy stood before Veni and Veni was embarrassed and she didn’t know to respond and the guy walked away as if it was a fan moment for him.

Veni was too tired and was waiting for her orange juice. Krishna was munching a sandwich beside her.

    “Hi….” – Veni heard a familiar voice.

“Hi Ashok! How are you” – Veni asked genuinely.

“sorry again” – Ashok replied with guilt.

“Oh Come on! Forget that” – Veni smiled

“Thank you” – Ashok said and Krishna looked at both their faces without understanding anything.

“So you came alone?” – Veni

“Few of my friends have come! Ok then! I will leave” – Ashok said without looking at her eyes

“Hey if you get time, visit the biology department! I will be there till 8!” – Veni said with enthusiasm

“Oh! Ok” – Ashok walked away without being able to see her face.

“I could see.... he is regretting…. He is full of guilt” – Veni

“Who is he” – Krishna asked straight away.

“He proposed me once..... near my tuition centre” – Veni

    “Oh…..!” – Krishna

“My dad saw it and it turned out to be big scene on road! Someone convinced my dad” – Veni said as she sipped her orange juice.

“Hmmmm” – Krishna responded having his last bite of sandwich.

Both walked towards their department without realizing that is going to be their last conversation.
