    The last stages of the war in Ramayana.

    Blood flowing like a river.

    The vanquished Ravana lying on the ground, groaning in pain, awaiting his death.

    Rama calls brother Lakshmana.

    Lakshmana, the ever obedient brother says “Yes Bhatra, what do I have to do”

    Dear Lakshmana, I have a very important job for you.

    For all his faults, Ravana is still a great man, very learned, full of wisdom.

    A great Shiva Bhakta.

    A benevolent Chakravati, Singer, Musician, Expert in Veena, knows the Vedas by heart.

    Please go to him, pay your respects and request him to share his learning before he departs from this world.

    The ever obedient Lakshmana immediately proceeds to the ground where Raavana is lying.

    He stood near his head.

    Hearing the footsteps and recognizing that Lakshmana is standing near his head, Ravana keeps quiet.

    Lakshmana waits a long time and returns frustrated.

    Reports to Rama what happened.

    Rama, the all knowing, smiles.

    Lakshmana, when you go to someone for learning, you have to stand at their feet, not sit on their head.

    Learn to pay proper respect to Ravana so that he can impart his learning.

    Lakshmana goes back and stands near Ravana’s feet.

    Looking at Lakshmana, Ravana smiles and welcomes him.

    Dear brother Lakshmana, welcome.

    How can I be of service to you asks Ravana?

    Lakshmana keeps silent.

    Ravana understands the purpose for which Lakshmana has come.

    He requests Lakshmana to come near him so that he can whisper in his ears.

    Says Ravana, I will teach you the 4 most important things which all must follow in their lives :

    1. Please Don’t get hooked to Whatsapp and waste your precious time believing every story on it.

    2. Don't send video files more than 3 MB and waste people s time. They don't have that much time to squander.

    3. Don’t squabble with friends on social media especially on politically motivated topics and spoil your mood .

    4. While driving, please don’t talk on your Mobile.

    Your success in life is guaranteed.

    The advice given by Ravana to Lakshmana does not appear in Valmiki Ramayan or mahabharath or Rama charitha maanas.
    Actually I saw it only in Door darshan version of Ramayana.

    The fact that Ravana was a great scholar could not be set aside, not with standing his being involved in evil deeds.Just to commemorate Ravana's greatness ,pundits would have added this episode later .Essentially this is an interpolation to ennoble Ravana.,the villain, yet a scholar.

    As per Valmiki:-

    That arrow, released with great speed and which was capable of destroying the body, tore off the heart of that evil-minded Ravana.

    That arrow, which was capable of causing death to the body, after taking away the life of Ravana and having been anointed with blood, penetrated the earth.

    Smeared with blood on having killed Ravana and thereby accomplishing its mission, that arrow re-entered its own quiver (of Rama) silently.

    From the hands of the slain Ravana, who was being separated from his life, fell his bow with its arrows (fitted to it), at the same time coinciding indeed with his life-breath.

    Having lost his life, that king of demons for his part, who was endowed with terrible swiftness and invested with great splendour, fell down from the chariot to the ground , like Vritra the demon when the latter was struck down by the thunderbolt.

    Moreover even in Mahabharata it is clearly said that evil Ravan was burnt into ashes because of which we metaphorically burn Ravan every dussera.
    How could someone who has turned into ashes come back to real form to give lecture and long speeches to others?

    Words by Rishi Markandeya about Ravana vadham in Mahabharata ,Vana Parva that Rama shot Brahmastra and Ravana was blasted into ash.

    Apart from jokes that derived from the teachings, here is the interpolated version of teaching by Ravana to Lakshmana.

    1 - The first thing Raavan told Lakshman was that one should complete any auspicious work as soon as possible and keep delaying the inauspicious work as much possible.

    He supported this teaching by saying, “शुभस्य शीघ्रम्” (Shubhasya Shighram).

    He told Lakshman that he could not recognize Rama and therefore delayed arrival at the shelter. Hence this is his condition.

    2 - The second thing he taught Lakshman was never to underestimate one’s enemy. He said that he did this mistake of understanding the monkeys and bears lesser or incompetent and he lost the battle against them.

    He said, when he asked Lord Brahma to make him immortal, he said no one else except for monkeys and human could kill him. This is because he believed that both these living beings were not capable to kill him.

    This was his mistake and he suffered life as a result.

    3 - The third and final thing Raavan told Lakshman that one should not reveal one’s life secret to anyone in the world. Here also Raavan made a mistake as Vibhishan knew the secret of his death. Raavan knew this was his biggest mistake of life.

    Ravana also told Lakshman about politics and statesmanship:

    Cheeniya Sir has given the humour tinged version applicable to the present world of communication. People are in a hurry and they may not wait to read the advice, though purported to have been listened to by Lakshmana with patience.
