Pakistan is at it's weakest economically.
It doesn't have money to feed it's people.
This is the most opportune time to make these changes.
Pakistan is also very isolated right now .
They stand alone except for the taliban and other terrorist forces. They always had that company. Should we do nothing because they have terrorist friends?

If they try any misadventure, our forces are ready .
We don't have forces for republic day parade only.
The forces feel much better when they have option of fighting back unlike with UPA which never allowed them to fight back.
Soldier would rather fight back than die in cowardly attacks like pulwama.

Why are you so pessimistic sir?
What good has status quo on this issue given the country? We are suffering the terrorism anyways. Why not fight back and not be sitting ducks like previously .

As for Ladakh,it is the most peaceful of the three regions. Ladakh has always been pro India and has strong connections with the armed forces. Armed forces are closely involved in welfare activities for many decades.Ladakh has been peaceful even in the worst times .

Why should this region suffer because of terrorism in 4 districts of kashmir?

Why should they be clubbed with kashmir when they are neither emotionally, linguistically attached to kashmir or it's problems.
Why should the peace loving people be punished ?

Why should they be the neglected region and people while kashmir gets to be the pampered spoilt violent cousin ?

They have been asking for UT status peacefully for years. Why should peaceful requests not be heard ?

As for investments....now that it has got it's seperate status ,people and govt will invest in this peaceful region of peace loving region.

It doesn't need kashmir ....ladakh can be accessable from Himanchal Pradesh if needed.

This is a brilliant move to provide relief to this region that has suffered second class status as part of J& K.

As for the power project.... Modi talked about setting up solar fields . What better way to produce electricity than this.
Ladakh has vast areas of barren rugged land that is ideal for setting up solar farms that are eco friendly .

Why should people living in urban ,developed areas deny the people of ladakh an opportunity to develop and earn an honest living?

Why should the burden of preserving environment only be on the simple people?

Why can't people living in cities and town become more consious of the environment and give up the comforts of a developed urban life ?why can't we downsize and simplify our living style so that the simple people of ladakh can enjoy a bit of development.

It is like America telling India that it is responsible for global warming .

I agree with your assessment of Pakistan. I am not suggesting not to do anything if someone encourages terrorists. I was only saying that Talibans are busy fighting a war with American soldiers and may free up their time now to fight for Liberation of Kashmir.

Yes. I am sure Indian forces are ready. They have better experience fighting terrorists attacks more than anyone else as they have been facing it for many decades. However, is this the right time to fight especially when American soldiers are pulling out of Afghanistan with the help of Pakistan, making the terrorists stronger? Having waited for 72 years, waiting for some more time for right opportunity doesn't hurt. Now, there will be a civil war in J & K and it will be discussed in the UN as human rights violation, if soldiers walk the streets of J & K to control the terrorist attacks. Everyone will blame the government of India for pulling out of Article 370 in the first place especially when there is no local government in J & K. This is just my view.

If India truly believes if J & K is a bilateral issue why would they let UN or any other country get involved?

That was another very 'democratic' decision taken by a single individual without even informing his cabinet members! As of now they have made it CRYSTAL CLEAR that this is indeed an internal issue and they are not letting UN or any other country get involved.

Once the Americans withdraw and the Talibans are let loose, there is no way they could be put into cages again ..... ever. So anytime after this happens is equally bad. Waiting for a few more years won't make the Talibans disappear.

It has been a disputed territory and with the UN since 1947 when the first war was fought between India and Pakistan. Pakistan has already raised this issue now in the UN again. It will be discussed whether India likes it or not.

I understand your view point about Talibans but should Indian government expedite and make them find their immediate next assignment?

Everyone has their own view point. India believes that they fought a righteous battle against terrorists in Sri Lanka with their consent. But Sri Lankan government asked them to pull out and told that they were harboring terrorism down south for many years before. Finally, a genocide happened in the process of eliminating terrorism.

When Nehru took the matter to the UN at that time, they recommended a plebiscite. The manner of conducting the proceedings were also laid down. Pak was to withdraw all their troops, the Indian security would stay on and then the referendum would be carried out in the presence of representatives from the UN. Pak failed to fulfill the very first condition. That, followed by the Simla agreement took the whole matter out of the purview of the UN. So how does it help Pak to go back to the UN now? Too late for a plebiscite considering they have handed huge chunks of Kashmir to China. We can't possibly go back in time to the late 40s and then have a referendum.

Anyway, for better or worse, the deed is now done and we can only hope for a good outcome.

As for Sri Lanka, I still do not understand why India meddled in their internal affairs. Very atypical.

    Dear Satchi,

Pakistan has never complied with any agreement. How are they going to respect bilateral agreement? They sign agreements only when they have a set back during wars. The Simla Agreement was entered into after the Bangladesh war. It is a dream to think that this dispute will settle through bilateral talks.

How any significant change in demographics will happen if no new investment happens there. If change of demographics is the concern, as per your observation, we need not worry at all.

Malappuram District in kerala has muslim majority. Lakshadeep is a Muslim majority UT. These places have kept their demographics over many decades with free flow of investments and human movement.

Regarding Kashmir, no one knows what will happen for sure in the long run. Status quo was not helping Kashmiri most of all. The so called protective status only protected the political interests of a few.
Hope this will bring a positive change in the lives of Kashmiris.

KPs suffered , everybody agrees ...who is arguing against that.

First floor in my apartment block is occupied by elderly Kashmiri family.

Parents and two grown up sons , first they had 1 apartment on the first floor and now they have a second apartment on the same floor after second son got married. So I have seen them and spoken to them.

Simply harping on KPs does not help , KM have suffered much more and stayed put there. You cannot discount the suffering of ordinary KMs and club them with oppressors . You will hear horrific stories on both sides ... only having sympathy to one side is not enough.

40000 + Mostly KMs died in Kashmir ..... this clearly indicates insurgency impacted both.

Truth is in walking the talk ... lets see how many KPs go back.

There are also some KP who stayed back ..... they also need to be heard ....

Their sentiments need to considered because fate of their state is being decided.

To understand you can compare a much milder issue .... think what tamilians will feel and do if govt tomorrow issues an ordinance to make Hindi compulsory in the state ... states have legislature and are better equipped in matters like this.

Every state pays and gets tax money from India as every state pays into it.

We don’t know which state pays how much. Many of cow belts states get much more of tax money than they pay. Should we all say no to them because even though they are not in insurgency areas , they failed to develop .

Bihar asks for special status , AP aka for special status , Nagaland has special status ... Kashmir is not unique
