    As I enter the month of August every year, I recall 'Tryst with Destiny', a speech delivered by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, to the Indian Constituent Assembly in The Parliament, on the eve of India's Independence, towards midnight on 14 August 1947. I wonder how many of you had a chance to listen to that speech broadcast live by All India Radio. We were sitting at the Marina Beach listening to the speech with great joy and ecstasy. This was followed by hoisting of our Tricolor at 12 midnight and by an hour of fire-works. The spirit of oneness was the greatest at that moment and there was hardly an eye that was not moist. It is a great pity how that intense National spirit got eroded over the last 70 years.

    In my nostalgic emotion, I am almost forgetting what I have come to tell you. It is time for you to start looking at posts across the forums for nominating them. Needless to say that I will be eagerly looking out for them!

    My story of coming out of an abusive relationship

    @nuss 's post on her bad marriage and how she came out of that is an inspirational post for me and for many women here. Best part is her determination to finish her PhD inspite of her struggles.

    I remember I read this a couple of days back while I was on the way to office in car with my husband. My job was to tell him the route from Google Maps. Since the mobile holder in the car was broken I was assigned the job of holding the mobile and telling him the fastest route despite usual traffic. (google language :grin:)

    Then I was so immersed in the story that I couldn't tell him the fastest route and he was so annoyed that I'm concentrating on something else and not the maps :mad: but the story brought a smile on my face and I don't regret having a small argument with my husband for reading this in the car and not telling him the fastest route :argue:

    So my first nomination for August is this.

    P. S : this being an old post I'm not sure if it was nominated anytime before. So I apologize in advance if it was nominated earlier anytime. If yes kindly ignore my nomination. :)

    Dear moderators, I would like to nominate Sabitha's Do You Believe In Magic? for the finest post of August 2019. It is amazing how she sees magic in our everyday life and sees a link between incidents that are apparently unconnected .Magic runs through her words.

    @iyerviji
    My dear viji
    Thank you very much for opening the current month's nominations with @HariLakhera 's On Reading Books
    You may not know this but I hold Hari in the greatest esteem. I have not missed a single post of his not only here in IL but in his own personal site. He is the own to whom I can address the prayer:
    ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय । तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय । मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय ।
    I love the post under reference and I can relate to it well. He starts with a quote of Kabir that is so relevant to the subject that has chosen. He brings to my mind Tennyson's words from Ulysses, "To follow knowledge like a sinking star, Beyond the utmost bound of human thought"
    I follow him like that. His concluding words:
    reminds me of Rajaji's introduction to Baja Govindam rendered by M S Subbalakshmi,
    "When intelligence matures and lodges securely in the mind, it becomes wisdom. When
    wisdom is integrated with life and issues out in action, it becomes Bhakti.
    Knowledge, when it becomes fully mature is Bhakti. If it does not get transformed
    into Bhakti, such knowledge is useless tinsel."

    @ramasala
    Dear ramasala
    Thanks a lot for your nomination of @SGBV 's Accepting Kids As Who They Are I must say that SGBV has expressed her anxieties very well. We had @messedup last month with almost a similar problem. We have come across average kids suddenly bursting to prominence and performing brilliantly. A nine year old son is yet to find his bearings and he must be given time to understand the world that he would grow into. Being the son of a brilliant mother, he would soon find his feet.

    @Balajee
    Dear Balajee
    Thanks a lot for your nomination of @Srama 's Do You Believe In Magic?
    Millions of people move around in the course of their daily pursuits but only a few stop a while to admire a lark who is learning to pray. Only gifted naturalists have an eye for a snail on the thorn. And that's nothing unusual for someone who is an ardent admirer of Richard Bach. This is yet another lovely piece of writing that creates the best of feelings in us.
    Do you see what I have been trying to say?
