    @SpringB,

There is a published information in Times of India that Siddartha and his wife Mrs. Malavika held 54% of the total equity of Coffee Day. 60% of this equity was pledged in 2018 which increased to 76% in 2019. The total debt of Coffee Day increased from Rs, 4,004 crores in 2018 to Rs. 6, 547 crores in 2019. The current liabilities which need to be repaid within 12 months raised to Rs. 3,890 crores in 2019 from Rs. 811 crores in 2018. Siddartha sold 20% of his stake in MindTree to L & T which reduced his debt by Rs 3,200 crores which brought in Rs. 2,100 crores after taxes. He was planning to raise Rs. 1,600 crores from one of the country's top lenders. He was also trying to sell his Global Tech Village for Rs. 2,800 crores to Blackstone and one other investor. He also started substantial sale of equity of Coffee Day to Coca-Cola which didn't materialize either. He also bought Sical Logistics, one of the largest forest in Amazon in South America on a 30 year lease in 2011.

When you have current liabilities repayable in 12 months become too much handle, people panic and that might have caused him to jump from the bridge being a good human being. It is not speculation, in my view. She has correctly written a snippet from the published information.

@Viswamitra sir Sorry nothing to hurt anyone but personally didn’t feel right to compare with Vijay Mallya who ran away and lives happily also this incident is closer to home than the published information what public is aware. Personally I don’t talk about why’s after a death though reasons might be right or wrong. So just got carried away.

    @SpringB,

No worries. You have every right to express your views. I have just mentioned what I learned for your information, in case, if you are not aware. In my earlier profession, I used to specialize in financial ratio analysis. He is no Vijay Mallya and that is why I differentiated him from Vijay Mallya.

You are so right. There isn't a day I don't learn something good in my life and today I learned an important lesson from you. When the family is mourning, this may not be the right time to discuss the rationale for his suicide. My apologies for missing your point.

As long as everything goes on well, the financial secrets are really kept secrets
things move smooth.Once casting of aspersions begins, the person, accused
or not accused ,also starts contemplating whether his past actions were really
    legal and correct.

The secret which the person possesses, soon comes to possess him .He feels
it beating at his heart, rising to his throat, and DEMANDING disclosure .Nobody
need blame him;nobody need file charges against him.
When suspicions from within begin to embarrass him, and the net of circumstances to entangle him, the fatal secret struggles with still greater violence to burst forth. It must be confessed ! IT WILL be confessed! There is no refuge from confession, but suicide,-and suicide IS confession.'

When we start accounting for suicide on any general grounds, we undertake a task that, from its very nature, is impossible of performance. The human mind is so wonderfully, yet so delicately, constructed, the human passions are so powerful, yet so varied, that it is idle for any one person to pretend to enter the consciousness of another, and account for the inner workings of that other mind .... This being true, a jury never could be permitted to treat it [suicide] as evidence of guilt. Among the legal and sociological problems engendered by the act of self destruction is the question of whether suicide by an accused/not accused should be considered evidence of his guilt.

Like every evolution, this aspect of law also had its beginning somewhere. The argument began that a murderer can be driven to suicide because of an unbearable sense of guilt and that his self-imposed punishment is tantamount to a full confession.Later on this was made applicable not only to murder but to other crimes and there started the admission of attempted suicide as evidence of guilt.

This is comparable to flight from the area of the crime., Flight, along with several other "defendant acts," had long been considered admissible as a relevant factor bearing on the probability of guilt."

Suicide is treated as admission of guilt and the act of the defendant is evidence of consciousness of guilt; consciousness of guilt is evidence of actual guilt.

Referring to the purported relationship between flight and suicide, the majority concluded: One who flees does so, generally, for the purpose of avoiding punishment that follows from violated law. One who commits or attempts suicide seeks to avoid no punishment. He deliberately accepts the highest punishment that the law could possibly inflict,-death. Hence the very circumstance that raises the presumption of guilt from flight is absolutely wanting in suicide.'"

If attempted suicide is admitted as an indication of guilt, it must meet the usual test of legal relevancy,'that is whether guilt of the substantive offense and proof of the suicidal attempt are so related that "one either taken by itself or in connection with other facts proves or renders probable the past, present, or future existence or non-existence of the other." A negative answer would indicate that the attempt should not be admitted;"

Any corroborating evidence will be sufficient to link the defendant to commission of the crime.
We cannot prevent media from discussing such cases of enormous importance just on a sympathetic ground that any death provocates in the family.Death is always sad, sadder still is suicide. The intention behind such suicides is that causes lot of anxiety ,turbulance among the public who may not be any way related to the crime. It is only social anxiety and cannot be treated as rumour mongering or discussion without any base.

    Dear Friends,
Just to have a diversion, here is a case, not connected with the topic.

A defendant was on trial for murder.

There was strong evidence indicating guilt, but no body had been found.

When giving the closing statement, his high-flying lawyer knew there was a good chance of him being convicted.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you all,” said the lawyer.

“Within one minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into this courtroom.”

And she turned and pointed at the courtroom door.

The jurors, somewhat stunned, all looked on eagerly.

    A minute passed.Two minutes passed.Three minutes passed.

    Nothing happened.

Finally the lawyer said, “Actually, I made up the previous statement.

But you all looked on with anticipation.

I therefore put to you that you have a reasonable doubt in this case as to whether anyone was killed and insist that you return a verdict of not guilty.”

The jury, clearly confused, retired to deliberate.

A few minutes later, the jury returned and pronounced a verdict of guilty.

    “But how?” inquired the lawyer.

“You must have had some doubt - I saw all of you stare at the door!!”

The jury foreman replied: “Oh, we did.""But your client didn’t.”
