Hi ladies.... I’mGayathri. Here is my first story.

A few days ago my sister came to me and said “Gayee, have you realised that we are drinking ground water coming directly from well”. There was a sense of amusement in both of our faces. We quickly went to balcony and peeped at the well from where the water came. The water looked pleasant and still but created ripples of thoughts in my mind.

We felt good that we are drinking pure, hygienic water after so many years. Yes, it’s been years since we drank water from a well and it felt as if we have achieved something great. Yes, in my sense access to pure water is truly a great achievement. When we were kids we used to drink water from wells and we knew about packaged drinking water but had no taste of it. I never thought that water can be sold and water can go scarce. Never until a drought like situation hit our place and all our wells and ponds went dry.

Here, the idea of paid water entered into our small town. It is then I realised, how precious the water is and how scary life could be without WATER. People used to get their overhead water tanks filled with the paid water brought in rusted tankers. Drinking water was Rs.20 per bottle. After that period, rains were back, our ponds and wells were full with fresh waters and everything was back to normal, but this idea of paid water did not leave our place.People became used to this canned water and drank only the so called “Mineral Water” and forgot the natural taste of water, the natural Mineral Water of mother earth.

Even we do the same thing when we visit our home town. It is done with the fear that ground water may be contaminated. Isn’t that disturbing?? We have to pay for something which is naturally available and can be sustained and managed if we could take some concern for the nature. Isn't that a beautiful idea?

The case is even worse in a city were me and my sis stayed in for a year. We used get bottled water, the same rate, Rs.20 per bottle. The bottle came in different colours, different shapes and we don’t even know where the water is coming from. The bottle wala comes once in two days to collect the old water bottles and delivered the new ones and if he comes late by a day or two then there will no water to drink. With that fear we used to drink less water so that we can manage with that single bottle for one more day. Truly disturbing, isn’t it?

The so called “mineral water” the origin of which no one knows, but still paid and drunk with a illusion that it is the purest form of water and the water that comes from the wells of our backyards are not even given a second chance of thought or trust is the true plight of this very advancing nature of the world. Seeing and experiencing all these things, it was truly a delight to drink water directly from a well from our backyard. Truly happy !!

    Thank you.

:hello:Article is timely and you began your maiden post with water a scarcity subject but timely post.
There is dearth of water but not bottle or can water. There is no truth if some one claims bottle or can contains minerals.
Chennai city as per reports in the press water can be booked and payment made for tanker supply online shortly. App is getting ready.
Beach marina close to us with so much of water there everywhere but not a drop to drink.
We used talk of purity of diamond and achievement as high water mark- low water mark and an idiom to emphasise perfection such as "rogue of the first water"..
    Thanks and regards.

The bottled water is not mineral water. At best is filtered water. It is better to install water filters at home if the corporation is not supplying treated water.
