    Episode 19:

Kalyani gulped a glass of water and started narrating everything happened after he was admitted to hospital. Smile in Guna’s face eventually vanished. When he came to know that she has gone away somewhere without telling anyone, Guna was shell shocked. He leaned on the cot and closed his eyes. His eyes welled up

“See? That’s why I asked you not to tell anything to him” Prasanna was annoyed and held Guna’s hand

“I can’t hide anything to him anymore. He should know about what happened to Meera. Moreover I couldn’t face him with guilt of hiding about this. I know he is matured enough to handle this” Kalyani said looking at Guna with the same hope

“She is right. I should definitely know about this. I am still surprised how you have maintained till today without telling me. I can purely understand your situation and as always I support you Kalyani. Don’t worry, she will come back to us one day. That day is not too far. Something is telling me. And NOW Prasanna, beyond us, Meera’s dad would miss her so much. As Kalyani has promised, start searching for her. It is our responsibility to get her back to her dad sooner. Accept my sincere apologies for putting you in such a state without knowing your mind. You need not feel guilty my boy. You have absolutely full rights to decide about your future. At any point of time, I am not going to stand against any of your wishes.”

Prasanna hugged him tight and stayed in that position for a minute. Kalyani admired her husband more and more and stayed smiling at them. She felt relieved on his reaction and started thinking how to get her back.

Guna was discharged from hospital after 15 days

    A month passed by.

Meera joined the new office and started her work. She got accustomed to the new environment. In her free time she helped Padmini. She started feeling Coimbatore as heaven. She never forgot to include Guna and Kalyani in her prayers. Mohan and Lalitha booked their return ticket despite Adhi’s protest and landed safely in Chennai

    @chennai, Meera’s house

Saradha was curious to know why Meera was missing since a month. She quickly completed cooking and arranged everything on the dining table. She stretched her head at upstairs and eagerly looked for Boominathan. Since Boominathan was not feeling well mentally due to Meera’s absence he took off that day. The newspaper was left unattended at the coffee table. Saradha wondered as Boomi didn’t turn up even for morning coffee. Even on Sundays, Boomi will be awake by 6, newspaper and coffee should be ready by 6:15. That’s his routine, and in these 17 years, things were never changed. But nowadays, Boomi has not showed interest towards anything. Suddenly he would go out and return late. Though she got an urge to check about Meera, she stopped and decided to wait. That day Boomi didn’t turn up when the clock stuck 9.

Saradh guessed that there is something wrong. Having no habit of thinking anything right about Meera and Boominathan, she concluded that Meera has eloped with someone. Out of curiosity, she took his coffee cup along with newspaper and walked towards his room. She slowly opened the door. Boomi was found sitting on the cot leaning on the walls of the cot stretching his legs, with eyes closed and fingers holding the center of forehead as if in deep thinking

“Coffee” said Saradha and walked in

Boominathan gestured to place it in table and closed his eyes again

“Any news about your daughter?” Saradha asked

Boominathan simply moved his head left to right without looking at her

Saradha “No news means? You checked in her office right? Did you meet her there?”

    He gave the same reaction

“She didn’t go to office as well?” Boominathan opened his eyes and gave a cold stare and asked “What do you want to know now?”

“Don’t I have rights to ask about her when she is not found for almost a month?” Saradha bellowed

Boominathan “When you asked, you neither mentioned her name nor as our daughter. When she is MY DAUGHTER, I don’t know what the hell rights you have to check about her. Nothing has happened to your expectation, NOW don’t stand in front of me and irritate me further. Get lost”

“How dare you” Started Saradha where Boomi stopped her showing his palm “have I ever slapped you? Don’t make me to do that today, get out” saying he closed his eyes again

Saradha frowned and came out of his room closing the door forcibly. She came and sat on the sofa fuming inside

Boomi felt his life as vacuum. His thoughts were disturbed by the phone call. Any calls with unknown number Boomi never missed to attend hoping it would be Meera or an information about her. He answered the call

“Is this how you sound like? It was years I heard you speaking” that was a familiar lady voice

Boominathan sat erect “Meera?” said he, his voice shaking

“Great! You recognized my voice. Good to know” said Meera sarcastically.

“Where are you? Where did you leave leaving me in such a state?” his voice broke

“Left you in which state? Was it painful than what I have gone through. Did you notice, its been years I stopped calling you as … by the relation which we are destined to” Meera said sharply which pierced Boomi’s heart. His heart bleed in the form of tears through the eyes.

“Your words are killing me than the fact you have gone leaving me alone” said Boomi in a shaken voice

“Your silence killed me every time when you have to actually react against whatever has happened to me in front of your eyes” Meera replied

Boomi remained silent. Her words are true.

“At times, even silence is a sin where you are not supposed to be silent but you prefer that. And for your sin, I suffered, suffering till date. I don’t want to make the same sin of silence in my future also. That’s why I decided to go away forever. How do you expect me to understand you and your pain? If you are expecting then, mirror. I am probing the same question against you, do you have an answer?”

That was a deep silence from Boomi’s side

“Though I have to admit that my intention is not to hurt you, if not now I cannot ask ever. Fine! I called you to convey an important thing. I am settled with a decent job. I should have died. But I don’t want to leave you in debts. So, I have decided to earn, clear my debts and see where life is taking me to. For now, I have to earn. I am earning now. I have paid this month loan due. Convey this to your wife. Convey that I am still alive, single and working hard to clear all the financial debts over my head. Can you? If you can’t talk write it in a paper and show her”

Boomi - “Shall I show that piece of paper to Guna and Kalyani as well?”

Meera froze hearing those names from Boomi “How do you know them?”

“That’s not important now. That’s not important either for me to know why you didn’t tell me about this new relationship. What is important for me right now is WHERE ARE YOU? Will you come back to me? I will support you whatever it is Meera. Give me a chance to shower you with the love of a father. I know, I haven’t done anything to you as a father. Now I crave to drench you with my love and care. Please Meera? Can you give me an opportunity?”

Meera hung the call. She couldn’t manage and she didn’t expect such words from her father. She switched off the mobile immediately and sobbed heavily. Is this what she was craving throughout her life?

Boomi felt very bad when Meera hung the call. Her words echoed in his ears penetrating his brain and caused pain both in his head and heart. He felt ashamed of himself choosing being silent at the wrong time.

“I am not a good father Girija” he mumbled looking at his wife’s pic.

    @Sathya’s house

Throughout the month he was busy with few conferences abroad, client meetings and proposal discussions. He longed to be back to his country, to his city, to his house, to his office and talk to Jayalakshmi about his wish. Sathya woke up late as he didn’t sleep till early morning. He cancelled all the appointments for that day. From the delivery team, he took the contact details of the team working in the client location. He drove to the SEZ campus, parked his car and called the project lead Thomas. Thomas was already notified about Sathya’s presence there, so he came early and waited for him. After formal greetings, Sathya casually asked about the team members one by one to him

Thomas briefed about every team member, while speaking about Jayalakshmi he gave nice opinion and informed that she is not available for a month and no information on her absence. This disappointed Sathya

“A month? A case of abscond?” asked Sathya

Thomas noticed the sudden change in his expression and nod his head as no idea

Sathya became clueless what to do next. He decided to visit her at home, thinking she might be ill. This thought made him worried about her. “But then, why there was no information at all? Why I was not notified by the HR team either? He wondered. He has taken the address from the records already. He drove towards her residence. While entering the condominium, Sathya was surprised to know she was staying in the same community of Prasanna’s.

He parked the car near the gate and knocked the door. Saradha opened the door and gave a puzzled look

    “Hello! Jayalakshmi’s residence right?”

“Yes! Who are you?” Saradha was already annoyed with Boominathan and someone asking for Meera further annoyed her

“I am coming from the company where Jayalakshmi is working” Sathya replied politely

Saradha’s face brightened. Now Boominathan cannot hide anything. He has to respond to this gentleman with facts.

“Please wait” smiled Saradha and walked fast towards his room and opened the door “Someone from Meera’s company has come searching for her, what should I tell them?” saying she quickly came down and stood near the entrance door

Boominathan swiftly came down and greeted Sathya and let him in. Sathya denied politely and said he has come to check about her as she didn’t turn to office for almost a month and no information from her.

“Can you get him some water to drink” Boominathan summoned Saradha

“It is on the table right next to you” grinned Saradha having no motive to move away from the place

“Do you like to have coffee?” Boominathan asked Sathya

“The coffee flask and cups are kept on the same tray” Saradha replied

Boominathan glared at her and replied Sathya “Sir, can you come in. I will explain’ Sathya removed his shoes, came in and sat on the sofa

“Sir. Jayalakshmi is not here now. Due to some personal issues, she has gone out of station. I am afraid she will not continue her work in your company. If there are financial dues let me settle.” Boominathan said in calm tone

Sathya felt his throat dried completely. He helped himself with the glass of water. He adjusted his throat and said in composed tone “I…I can understand. For completing the formalities, can she come for a day? I will ensure to finish off the formalities at the earliest so that she move on wherever she would like to”

Boominathan looked at Saradha and put his head down “I myself not sure where she is now. She has left without informing us. We are searching for her”

Sathya couldn’t believe what he heard. He noticed the embarrassment in his face. Staying here for even one more minute will make them witness his emotional outburst. Sathya stood immediately “I am sorry to hear about this. My prayers to locate your daughter soon. Don’t worry, she will be alright. Let me take your leave now Please” he uttered those words fast and left even faster. Saradha didn’t fail to notice the change in expression in Sathya’s face. The red Mercedes Benz that he drove and his dressing style depicted that he is not an ordinary employee came all the way looking for the missing employee

She clapped her hands and sat in front of Boominathan. He raised his face and looked at her. She shook her eyebrows and smirked “So, where is your daughter? Eloped with whom?”

“Stop right there” warned Boominathan pointing his index finger at her

“Why should I? She has defamed this family. Tomorrow the entire street will come to know about this? What are you going to reply them? Am I not responsible to answer their questions? I want to know? Where is she? With whom she has eloped?” Boominathan’s palm fell strong on her cheeks which made her collapse in the ground.

She was married to Boominathan exactly 17 years back. Meera was 6 years old by then. From the day of their marriage, when Boominathan clearly mentioned her that he doesn’t need a wife for himself but a mother to his daughter, for which Saradha denied, he neither spoke nor touched her

“There is a limit for anything and this is it. What do you think in your mind? Just because I keep silence for all your bawls, do you think I am numb? I was so far tolerating because I know being a single man raising a girl child is difficult. Also, I didn’t spoil your life. Respecting your wish, I went and spoke to your dad to cancel this marriage. He fell, literally fell on my feet not to cancel this marriage just because you told, you are amateur to decide about your life. I never accepted for marriage. I was looking for a house maid to stay with us permanently. That’s what I told my mom. She insisted me to marry. I clearly told, I can’t have anyone in the place of Girija be at home or at my heart. With a guilt of spoiling your life only, I handed over all the money I earned. Have you ever seen spending anything for my sake? I remained silent because I felt enough of the chaos you are creating already in this house. I don’t want to trigger anything new by shouting at you. Enough of your howl alone in this house. Do you think I cant shout? I can but I preferred other way. There are reasons why I remained silent” he roared like a mad

“It is this silence at wrong time which killed Meera each and every day she stayed in that house” Boominathan was shocked to hear those words and turned to see who is at his entrance

    To be continued…
