    :hello: Neivedyam & Bhakthi :hello:
    (Offerings & Worship)

A critical neighbour X was in dialogue with a boy about Neivedyam. X being an atheist, used to ridicule the actions of theist. Boy was naive but with a questioning mind and never accepts statements or actions at face value.

Boy asked Mr. X IF at all God accepts our offerings I.e. neivedyam- the quantity should get diminished. But it never happens. That means, God has not a accepted or taken the offerings at all. Mr.X being a theist was rejoicing and told him that it is all humbug and there is no God.

I was earshot and the boy directed the same query to me. I was bit perplexed and told him it has been going on for several centuries and so we have to carry on the practise. Boy was not convinced . Then I remembered the discourse I read the previous day.

An idea flashed in my mind and I made an attempt to convince the boy that God does accept the offerings.

I took him home and gave a book with slokas and told him to memorise and repeat it without referring to book. He by hearted in few minutes and was ready to tell the Sloka without referring to the book.

I told him to open the book and look for the sloka. He got it. I asked him now that your mind had taken the words of sloka from the book but “how it is still there?”

He was wondering whether I was kidding him.

I explained to him THAT there are stithi - states- called sthula Sthithi & Sookshama sthithi.
That is seen and unseen states. Words in your mind are in unseen state whereas in book it is in seeable state. Neivedyam ie the offerings accepted by God in sookshama state and so in physical state, you wouldn’t find the quantity you had offered gets diminished.
Boy was in profound contemplation and finally accepted my explanation.

Many wonder what Bhakti or worship can do to things.

Upon seeing people around in worship or Bhakti,
The food kept has offerings to God turns into Prasad.

When someone foregoing meals and in deep worship,
His or her hunger turns into fast.
When Bhaktas join in a long journey of worship,
    Journeys transforms into pilgrimage.

When water finds itself in the midst of bhakthas,
    It turns into thirtham.
When a house is filled with bhaktas,
    The house changes into temple.

    When music emanates from bhaktas,
    It turns into Kirthan.
    When bhakta gears into action,
The action becomes services to lord.

When Man or Woman begins with Bhakti,
    He or She becomes human.
    When Bhakta performs a task,

    Task turns into Karma.

Thank you for responding in few minutes of posting.
    2. There could be many versions of neivedyam from Cape to Kasmir. If it is not for Lord, Who will make kozhu kattai.
    Regards.
God likes all offerings including tulsi.

    @Thyagarajan Sir,

That was beautifully portrayed in a simple language!
I will definitely tell my kids the same.

    Yes.
Here is a new, and better scheme of explanation for @Thyagarajan:
A household has finite number of people. And the offering is shared among them in very visible chunks. The god(s) that offering was made-to, knows/has an infinite number of people, so She divides the offering by ∞, and takes/consumes only her portion, and leaves the rest for the offerer.

: Here is an odd thing about NRI's. It is said that you go to a gathering of NRI, like a potluck party in phoren, and shake a stick at it; you'd hit 8 engineers of the 10 who got hit. The other two would be doctors.

    Thyagu,

    1. "by hearted the slokas" I suddenly remembered the March/April of my 10th grade board exams. In particular, the biology exam for which I rattu-fied many definitions and mitosis/meiosis and all.
    2. I was worried not about the words in the biology textbook, but whether those words in my mind would remain there till the exam was over.
    3. The fear was so deep-rooted, I was afraid to sleep. Biology was my nemesis. It also explains why in NRI pot-luck parties where Amulet goes and shakes a stick at the guests there are 8/10 engineers and 2 doctors.
    3. It's been a long Friday and I was reading some InstantPot recipes prior to reading this snippet, so I read the last smaller font line as "Task turns into Korma" : )
    4. Jokes aside, good explanation.

GOD draws in all people to threads, some join the Kirtana with response, others look on in quiet joy.

rattu-fied: from ratt marna -- Hindi for by-hearting

    2. Biology and algebra were GABRA for many.
GABRA- slang Tamil word for horror.
    4. Wish you happy week end and pot- cooking. You had given an indication you manage time well multi tasking with browsing included.
    5. Thanks for reading my post as pot was boiling.(I guess) or and in between whistles.
Thanks you too joined in welcoming God in post hailing his super quality.
    Regards.
God likes Prasad including Kurma made in & served from earthen-pots which is inert.
