Benchmarking is my favourite pasttime. I amuse myself each time the notched expectation is surpassed. Or Raj was testing the broad waters -- whether Simmy was unfussy about his past escapades. If Simmy growled or looked sullen then surely Raj would have dropped her at the station and vamoosed out of her life. He has cemented memories of his good ex-girlfriends. In modern times, debonair men are fond of their past girlfriends so are the self-assured women of their past boyfriends. I am yet to come across a second ranker (boy!) who hasn't fallen for the first ranker (girl!) from his college in my conversations with friends. Days of unsettling envy from previous relationships are passe in both the genders. These days relationships are like the highlights in an experienced resume. The impressive companionship in the past lends credence for recruitment in the next relationship. Men are uncritical of women having dated the second rankers of their class and women are unbothered of men aspiring for the first rankers of their times. Both ways, they are impressed that their ongoing partners have dated competitive toppers who enriched their lives in the past. Raj might have interposed that senorita to coax out the Simran's senor from college. Is Raj's first ranker senorita from college as imposing as Simran's second ranker senor from her college. Battle of the exes: whose ex was intimidatingly superior! A playful benchmark of the exes in bowler hats.
