My brother(cousin) and his wife with their one and half year old son recently moved to our apartment. My nehew is very naughty. Throws things around . breaks everything. He creates mess of our home when he comes here. When we try to stop him, he starts crying uncontrollably and goes on a breath holding spell. It is difficult to control him. He does not play withthe toys. Always want to explore household items and break them. How to discipline such kids? He doubles our work and it is impossible to run behind all the time.
Hey , this is a perfectly normal toddler!and this is what they do Maybe , if you can designate an outdoor/indoor space where he could spend more time... it might help; but kids themselves won't restrict to an area, that's why they need supervision all the time ! Engaging with other kids also should help All the best
Easy if u r in India. 2. Lot of small objects articles damaged crunched cracked are available in second hand in shops that buy old bottles, news paper, beer cans, deodorants etc. these will be very attractive for him and place these in odd places and the thrill of finding and damaging further would fill him and reward him for the damages caused or discovered from odd places. I am sure he would love you to the core.!! 3. If outside India You must collect gather preserve to use as suggested as and when nephew reports. Same technique for similar menacing hyper active toddlers, children. Thanks and Regards. God causes smile on infant face by apparition or by waving invisible colour flowers.
The kid is not going to stop this till 21/2 or 3. Stacking glasses, trying different sounds using plates and spoons would be very interesting to kids of that age, so give him that to play, when he done he will move to next thing. Playing in water , with few small bowls and a small tub of water he can play for a while. and also trying different food like apple, carrots etc keep them busy chewing that hard pieces with no teeth piece of chalk and let him draw on floor front yard or near steps.. My son, he didn't leave a single shelf, he used to climb coffee table and explore everything.. in every room. some kids do more based on their energy levels. Need to keep an eye and take away sharp stuff, you can keep telling no, by repeating and repeating, they will understand in a year or few months, what is not allowed.
It is not your job to discipline him. It is not advisable also as he sees you only occasionally. His parents have to step up, realize this need not be considered as normal and work on consistently disciplining him in an age-appropriate manner. Consistently and age-appropriate are key. Pretty much any method applied consistently will show effect. One such: How to Discipline an 18-Month-Old Child If they are not in their own home, one parent has to always be prepared to leave immediately with the child if he does not listen after the second or third time of being told not to do something. The parent might have to leave while dinner is on or important conversation is happening. Consistency. From parents and from other adults. If other adults interfere with the parents and take the side of the child, the parents should have the ability and authority to stop that adult from interfering. Throwing things around and breaking them does not have to be considered normal for any age.
Put away any valuables and breakables that are within a baby's reach. Have some interesting things for your nephew to play with when he visits and gently redirect him towards these. If these efforts fail then have a chat with your brother.
What do you guys do if a 1.5yrs old toddler gets bored? He does not want to read books or does not want to sit for that matter. Always wants us to take him for a stroll.
What is his mother doing, when he is doing naughty things around? Simply pass a message to her that you are too tired to control him in a jovial manner.
