S O S!!!

Dear satchi,

I was surrounded by people who were all frustrated in their personal lives, living with a simmering anger seething beneath, and a sudden outburst at the slightest irritation. They could have been indifferent to me, but that was not so, because they always took good care of me and it is all because of my grandma ‘s efforts I got married. So looking at all the good things I have enjoyed under their care, I don’t remember these minor incidents, even though, the scar is a constant reminder to me.

The write up though , makes me a little conscious about my parenting. ... I am one hell of a nagging mom ... !!

And adding one lemon's juice makes it totally a delightful and heat stroke preventing drink! Drinking before stepping out into the sun and again when back home ... is also advisable

How did you escape the castor oil punishment? Can you give some hint?
It would help me review what I did wrong.

 

This is what we also do to avoid dehydration.It just helps and doctor's visits can be avoided .

I wouldn't lay claim to any Houdiniesque skills of an escape artist. The castor oil thing was just not a thing with my elders, reasons unknown. Apologies Viswa!

 

Satchitananda Madam by her snippet on Gopulu's 'castor oil scene ' has extracted varied responses from many on various topics on earth.

The artists Shilpi, Maniam and Gopulu fascinated me a lot through their drawings in kalki and Vikatan.
When a series about South Indian temples( Thennaattuk kovilkal) by Baskara thondaiman was published,Shilpi gave a three dimensional life to the sculptures in the temple towers and pillars.
Maniam mesmerized all the readers of Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki.Though the characters were created through the mighty pen of Kalki,Manian's Indian ink made an idelible impression on the minds of readers.Kundavai, Nandini and vandiyathevan, Azwarukkadiyaan-without exception all stand before our eyes,because of Maniam.

Gopulu's drawings attract common man, even uneducated, by his portrayal of day to day events , as that of girl viewing, Marriage procession, appalam and murukku making,music performances during December season,kalyana samayal, death ceremonies,or kitchen paraphernalia in total reality.His lines are special even to peasant.
Gopulu was very calm and won't talk much. There were some novels for which they waited for Gopulu and Gopulu only to picturise the writing.

Tuppariyum Saambu, Mr. Vedantham,Thillana mohanambal,
Washingtonil Thirumanam,sila nerangalil sila manithargal,oru manithan, oru veedu, oru ulakam had Gopulu's master pieces.

After retirement . from 1972,he was all in all in an Advertising Firm-Adwave International.
I have been fortunate to serve him when he visited our bank in connection with some NBFC.( Non banking Financial Company matters).

We had a chance to visit his house once.Our Recreation club conducted a drawing competition for the Employees' children.Around 200 kids participated.Gopulu gave different topics for different age groups,

On the appointed day we collected all the drawing sheets and went to his house with a request to assess.

Shri Gopulu took extreme care on each sheet and within one hour assessed the best five and handed over the sheets with his precious signature.
Even when he was affected by paralysis,he tried with his left hand and they were as good as his right hand drawings.So much of love and respect towards 'art'.

Though I hadn't been manically instructed upon in the torch of health and in the conventionality of prosperity, eat this, drink this, I still think we Indians got away unscathed with castor oil and anthelmintics compared to our counterparts in the ancient tribes of Taino and Chinook. Their parents had been invasively ambitious tinkering with the skulls of the newborns for a sloped forehead to enhance intelligence. Those kids would have envied our castor oil ritual.

Re: anthelmintics, but ante to that, I love Mistt's smile thread which I furtively follow.

I read about a kid's insight in Mistt's 'smile' thread when shown an experiment on worms dying in alcohol and cola but surviving in water. The smart alec in the class infers that water is harmful to humans because worms thrive in water! If amongst the timid kids coerced into odious practices, there was such a brightly argumentative kid, the anthelmintics could have been eschewed with critical reasoning that drinking eight glasses of water and consuming anthelmintics simultaneously would confuse the worms whether they are supposed to perish or flourish in our guts.
