Lok sabha Elections 2019 was a hot topic in our house hold since the beginning of the year and my four year son R started observing all the things. Every night at news channel debate he would ask us tough questions like why is this uncle interrupting others, why is he shouting like this…

Almost everyone in my family and extended family support a particular party and based on our conversation R started claiming he too likes the particular prime-ministerial candidate. Election dates were announced and since R doesn’t like surprises I told him about we(I &him) will be going to polling booth where I will vote and he will just come along with me.

There started the problem! R badly wanted to vote. When we told you should be over 18 to vote, he didn’t believe us. But on his defense we have said there is a similar age criteria for drinking coffee, eating noodles and what not!

I had a early morning on the election day as my husband was traveling out of the town. R woke up and was lounging lazily around the house. I asked him to drink milk fast so that we can go cast vote, R did things in a super fast speed which would have put Usain Bolt to shame. We reached the polling station at 7.30.

R had fun while waiting in the queue but soon he started getting restless. He started asking when would we cast vote for that particular candidate. People in the queue started laughing and I was worried as this might be considered as campaigning.

Police man stationed outside the booth stopped R and said I can’t allow you. For a minute I was scared not of R but of policeman. What if R starts bombarding him with questions like’ Why are you looking stern? What’s that design in your belt?’ Thankfully policeman said it only for fun and allowed us inside.

Inside the polling booth I had an interesting time with election officer. I had taken along my passport as my identification proof. She pointed to the passport and asked what is this?

    ‘Passport’ I replied.

‘Passport..she took it in her hand as it’s a radiating device..’

‘Is this allowed?’ she asked the officer sitting next to her with whom R was having an interesting conversation.

‘yes’ the other officer replied . By now R was saying he is four years old and he too has passport.

‘Your name is wrong between the passport and electoral rolls..’ told the strict officer again.

‘You are referring to the Mother’s name mentioned in passport.. Here’s my name and address..’ I showed her and she reluctantly allowed me.

The next officer with whom R was still engrossed in conversation, kept a mark on my finger and R started demanding the same. It took us sometime to convince that it's only for adults. I went inside the booth, saw the symbol I wanted to vote and pressed the button. As I took my hand away and heard the beep sound I heard the voice ‘No..don’t touch..’

While I was concentrating on voting, R too attempted to press the button. Since he didn’t know where to touch the EVM, no damage was done and R is proudly claming he too voted. Thus we both did our democratic duty and R started asking if he can vote again tomorrow.

LOL. That's hilarious! And to think it is such a quandary whom to vote for when one finally gets the right to vote!

:hello:A soothing narration as if I was feather touched. A toddler held by hand in booth had the feel of voting does so good to mom and to the readers here.
I wish all the best to the youngest voter of the day and to you for exercising your franchise as a responsible citizen of India.
    2. Voting reminds me when I landed perplexed with a naive question by a domestic help. She had three different set of people visited her and offered amount x , y & z. Her query was to whom to cast her vote.
I told her it is illegal to receive money from the party or parties.
In the meanwhile another friend of hers came and replied that she too received different amounts from different parties and is going to cast her vote to the party whose rep had given her the least amount. When asked, “why” her reply was the party given least amount would be least corrupt.
My domestic help Now understood and she decided to give her vote to party which had given her the lowest bribe.
    Thanks and Regards.
God does not need any one’s vote to rule.

Therein the issue is , that the ones who didn't offer anything, technically become the lowest bidder with zero value, but they never come in the ambit of being noticed!!
Its tough being the lowest bidder ever !!
