Eating a human could never be a personal choice, hopefully!!
And for other meats too its not personal choice anymore. In India many states have laws on kind of meat that one cannot sell or consume, something very similar to the federal Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act in USA.

It is still a personal choice in places where there are no such laws and different meats are available , it is
Mostly to do with your social beliefs .it only becomes a problem when one
Person tries to curtail others persons choice where it is lawful .

If you have travelled from Indian state where beef is not allowed to USA where beef is available everywhere , it becomes a choice whether to eat to
Not . Similarly if you travel to east Asia it will be your personal choice to consume various meats available there .

The point by manisha was we Indians can follow our religious beliefs and traditions. Why unnecessarily drag Americans into it

I was raised in kerala. Most malayali Hindus eat beef there. It was near impossible to get pure mutton there as it was always mixed with beef pieces for profit

OP , good that your son listened to you and understand your concern. I have noticed that when we convey facts to kids and if its convincing to them they follow it very well.

    Sorry to divert.
    @sslkgpaa
In India beef is banned in many states , but not all. They dont even other people to eat it by strict rules , except in a few states like Kerala. I dont understand why the central government who is is ruled by a party that is against cow slaughter allow beef export ( among top 5 in the world). Hypocrisy at its highest level.
I feel that its personal choice and no one has the right to object or control what another person should eat by objection or laws. If one like it or not its their choice and we should respect it. All animals and plants have life.i dont think one is above another one. Nature has created a food cycle for its maintenance. I am a vegetarian most of the time, but eat egg or fish once in a while, but I respect others choices.

Holy cow! India is the world's largest beef exporter

    That's a happy update.

As he grows older, he might have occasion to discuss his food choices with others. Help him have a reason to share that does not reflect negatively on those who eat beef. The 'bad sweat odor' reason will not sit well with beef-eaters. For example, one year there was a shortage of flu-shots. Healthy adults were asked to delay or not take shots that year. I took one for some private reasons. Another adult who did not take the shot went on to loudly and righteously say, "There is a shortage.. if I take a shot I am depriving a person who needs it more." I felt so embarrassed, and wished I could somehow get the flu shot out of my body : )

BTW, I googled it and found some interesting studies around body odor of red meat eaters. Didn't know about it earlier.

: ) Unrelated, but this reminded me of a conversation a friend and I had at an Indian buffet birthday party. The Indian moms were running after the kids trying to feed them, cajoling them to eat one more spoon of the food. Meanwhile, gora kids were sitting at the table or running around with tandoori chicken pieces held securely in the tiny hands ... ears going red and some tears from the eyes due to the spice, but, relishing the chicken nonetheless as they tore the meat expertly from the bone with their teeth. : )

My not so gora kids ( paternal genes) dig into their tandoori chicken and beef ( maternal punjabi genes) with equal gusto :)

Your write ups are so funny!!

Is it true tough? Does beef taste/ smell like ghee?
Goat cheese and yogurt has funky smell- must be the same as the goat meat!
