Haha! I was also thinking of putting fantasy aside for more 'serious' reading. But its probably a resolution that I will not keep.. if you have recommendations for sci-fi/fantasy, do share.

I'm reading the first book in the Hyperion Cantos: Hyperion. I don't know how I didn't get to it until now but you can't find a list of best modern sci-fi that doesn't include this series. Another trilogy on my list is Remembrance of Earth's Past -- book one is the 'Three Body Problem' -- by Liu Cixin. People either love it with a passion or hate it with a passion but the books were a phenomenon in Chinese and a huge critical success in English, nominated for both the Hugo and Nebula awards.

In 'serious' reading I finished Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. While I'm a fan of his other books, I didn't find this one particularly illuminating, probably because I'm not the target demographic for this book. Most of what the author advocates is already part of my digital habits, but for those suffering from social media overload it could be just what the doctor ordered. It did however strengthen my resolve to defer the cell phone question, vis-a-vis my DS, for a few more years.

    Thanks!
    I picked up Hyperion.

I am also listening to 'Bradbury 13' (a radio adaptation of some Ray Bradbury stories) and 'This Messy Magnificent Life' - about weight loss and self criticism and such.

Serious reading or I should say listening, I completed 'How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character'.
