Is there anyone in the world who don’t like snacks/chats? May be yes! But I haven’t met anyone till date. Now coming to the topic. India is famous for snacks/chats. There are so many varieties across every region. First which comes to my mind is definitely those hot crispy golden cover holding soft and yellow mashed potatoes, It’s none other than samosas. Then comes Masala puri, pani puri etc. Off lately I’m very much addicted to these store bought fried items like Mixture, Kodbele, Chakli and so on... I want to minimise this addiction considering the quality of the oil and no patience to make them at home. Sometimes I do make Boiled Channa chat and eat nuts too. But it gets boring . I don’t want to eat fruits evening since I’m doing that almost every morning. And I’m not coffee or chai person too.. Would like to know some more non fried and healthier snacks. Will add some of them I know .Please share some ideas and recipes which you know or you do. Happy Snacking
Have you tried baked versions? You could use an oven or air fryer.They tastes good with a wee bit of compromise in the taste and/or texture.Once you master baking at the right temperature the texture can be as crispy as the baked ones. Aloo samosa - Replace maida with aata (wheat flour) and bake these at a low temperature,basting with oil in between.They come out very tasty and crispy.As a healthy addition add some radaga or chole to go with it. Baked papdi chaat - Bake whole wheat papdies and top it with some fresh chana,chutney etc. Pakodas and bajjies - These can be baked in the oven, baste with little oil while flipping in between.I have tried onion pakoda,aloo bajji,mirchi bajji,spinach pakoda,peanut pakoda.Make sure to bake in small batches.You could try this air fryer version Baked fries. Baked cutlets. Murmura mixture with nuts. Sprouts and murmura mixture. Use paniyaram/paddu pan to make masala vada,mysore bonda,veg koftas for manchuria and malai kofta. Try baked chaklies, check this out - Baked Butter Murukku - No murukku acchu needed! - Love is in my Tummy Gobi manchuria and 65 - Replace the deep fried gobi with its baked version and season it with the usual Chinese tadka. Aloo chaat Air fryed Golgappas Baked or air fryed kurkuri bendi Kurkuri Bhindi (Okra) in Air Fryer Check out vahchef's air fryer recipes,I remember seeing his chegodi and many other mouth watering recipes. You can bake almost every snack that traditionally calls for deep frying.Except for the chaklies and golgappas I have tried all of the above successfully,I am yet to try them.Happy cooking and snacking

Yes it does turn great,the batter should be thicker than usual,just dip the chillies in batter and place it on a tray and immediately bake in a preheated oven,once it gets half cooked remove and baste with little oil on all sides and bake again. You can also make baked version of cut mirchi.Cut mirchi is traditionally made by cutting the mirchi bajjies into small pieces and deep frying them again,these are finally topped with lemon-onion masala. I have noticed that the baked ones are more spicier than the deep fried ones, so you need to adjust the spices accordingly.
Aloo bonda (potato and besan) and Mysore bonda (curds and maida) can be successfully made in paddu pan but not urad bondas

Elevenses, in-betweens, Tiffin, or by any other name, is just as deceptive. It's been only a few weeks since the NY-resolutions were sworn in. We cannot give up so soon. If there is a snack, that has no GOPS (grains, oils, potato, sugar) I'd like to know what that is.
Dear Shrav3, It’s a problem faced by many, you are not alone in this I make below on a daily basis and it’s been a hit: 1. Corn cobs (Jola) - do on gas stove flame... apply green chutney or red chilli powder with salt and lemon 2. Broccoli, carrot, capsicum, onion, Zuchini - bake them in oven and apply salt, chat masala and some dressing. I generally prefer lemon and honey 3. Soak different types of cereals overnight (green mung, black Channa, horse gram, alsande Kalu, white peas). Pressure cook them with salt and then just give tadka with mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves, green chillies and some grated coconut. You can also use the water from pressure cook to make rasam.
Hi why don't you make paper avalakki, kadle pori and store it in a container. It'll last for a week. Then one day u can try sprouted green gram chat, sprouted methi seeds mixed with pomegranate with a dash of lemon n a spoon of coconut, grated carrot kosambri, cucumber kosambri (I know they are not chat ) but healthy snack. Mixed boiled channa spoon each of brown, white, rajma etc(may cause gas ) If I remember more I'll tell you.
