    Friends,
I'm desperately in need of your advice for my career.. I worked in software for overall 6.5 years, in us as well as in India, in US for 2.8 years and in India for about 4 years. I had a gap of 5 months in between before I joined job in India. I was working in a Lead role in Quality assurance. After that I went to abroad again with husband but didn't work there, stayed as a homemaker. So I lost 3.5 years of work experience. Now I'm in India at my moms place due to issues with my husband not going well but I couldn't stay idle at home so I have joined a bpo (client is a bank) for the time being and been working for 7 months. Please tell me if I have any chances of going back to the software field again? If there are no chances then I would stick on the same bpo job itself but it gives me very less income.. If there are chances of me moving into software, I wish to go for a Scrum master role . If any one has experience in doing a scrum master role or have done Scrum certification please guide me in that also just so I can fully make up my mind if possible or not to get into that role.. If there are openings at least I will keep trying for it but without having any idea on it, keeps me stay away from upgrading my knowledge or even apply for jobs. I request you all to please guide me since these thoughts about my career is bothering me a lot for many days and the only place I thought to seek help is here. My married life is almost ruined to say, so career is the only thing I have to rely on going forward. I might have to create a new post separately for my married life and asking suggestions. But for now I'm in need of career guidance. So please please help me friends. Thank you.

Thank you so much Vidushi for the detailed reply...i wanted to go into scrum because few years back that was booming and manual testing had become almost saturated..im a Btech (IT) student but I always felt that I do not have much coding skills which is the reason I do not want to opt for automation testing. I will think about what you said , but since I have a huge gap in my IT field I wonder if companies would hire me . Since in India even if there is few months back they will question what we were doing in this gap..so thats my question if there is a possibility or not to get into the IT field now since I do not know what is the current scenario.

Why can’t you do some certifications in Automation testing in Selenium etc.
You need to know some basics of Java.
There are many such things in Udemy too.
I remember one lady who had 5 years gap after her kid , joined back after getting certified in Selenium. I think she went to some institute.

S/W testing these days means Automation.Hardly anyone hires for manual testing. One thing is taking any certification in python/selenium etc and try for jobs. Or check Women re entry program in MNCs. If you are not over the age limit for PSC/bank tests ,you can try that too.If you like teaching take B.Ed(correspondance) and join schools as computer teacher (+1 or + 2 classes as you have BTech ). .IT field need constant learning and upgrading skills. So if you are not comfortable in coding check alternative career as well for long term survival.Good Luck

Yes.. Even 4 years back itself when I quit my job automation testing was so much talked about.. I'm in mid 30s so I checked for bank jobs too but don't qualify for the age bar. I will enquire for certifications itself in selemium and see how it works.. Thank you so much dear.

    Hi Star,

Given your situation , I can understand your desperation for a job.
you are not into coding and you wanted to get into IT job.

Be it development or testing, one needs basic coding/scripting skills to feel capable to do their job. Every year there are freshers pumped into companies with the latest technologies. Think about your career in the long run and don’t get yourself trapped in a stressful situation.

Still if you are persistent to get into IT,
    1. Today’s market, not all companies afford for 100% resource for scrum master role. Developers/testers does take up the scrum master roles additionally.

    2. Do certifications (including scrum master) in your area of interest to showcase.

    3. Consider taking up a short term course with job promise.

    4. Tap your old network/ colleagues to understand your opportunities with the old companies.

Explaining your break time , comes afer. The first milestone for you is to get called for an interview.

I have been there, getting a job after the break in itself is a big job but not impossible.
    All the best!

There are many people working in a company like BAs, developers and QA leads waiting to take up scrum master roles. I think the first thing you need to do is start applying for iT jobs (Manual QA jobs ) and other jobs which doesn't require much of technical knowledge. Roles like Business Analyst, Marketing analyst, Digital Analyst doesn't require much technical skills. Even though manual testing has become low it cannot be erased completely in SDLC. I know off shore counter parts which still do it. you can even apply for manual testing and then learn new technologies and move on. scrum master requires lot of experience in the whole SDLC and handling of lot of complications in the project. My project scrum master works 12-14 hours per day since it is a very complicated project. But still you can apply and try your luck in every role you think you will suit. Don't worry every one goes though your face and IT is a field which requires constant updating. There is nothing in this world called settlement now a days. What ever you know there is an updating of skill required. But the thing right now you have to do is start applying for IT jobs.
Let me know if I can be of any help to you. Even I am going through a very tough phase in my married life.

Thank you so much dear for the detailed inputs...guess for now doing up a certification will only work out from what you and all others have suggested. Yes it's true that there's a lot of competition and if we don't keep updated it's hard even to get an interview call...but without losing hope let me try doing certification and then see if I have any progress.. Thank you so much again :)
