Got a message in whatsapp from a friend. The calm type, she is usually polite, does not use chat abbreviations, writes complete sentences with punctuation. Acknowledges each typo with a * in follow-up messages.

A regular "what's up, what plans..." query from me got this reply:
K has a cold. Just an %*#%@&* cold, but you'd think the troops being withdrawn from Syria should come straight to my home and help him get better. ^&%^#

K is her husband. My calm friend typing special char*a$c^te#rs had me LOL. :grinning:

Why are men such babies even when they have just a cold? It is universal across cultures, east and west. Across generations. From our great-grandmothers' time to millennials now.

I felt like I had seen this somewhere. Sure enough, web MD says that women are differently able to deal with it because of hormonal make up:
The Man Cold: Do Guys React Differently to Colds?
    Excerpts:
"The female sex hormone estrogen slows down how fast a virus multiplies, Templeton says. This may lead to fewer symptoms. The flu virus may not spread as quickly in women because of estrogen and how the female body reacts to it. Studies have not shown if the same thing applies to the cold virus.

What’s more, the part of the brain that controls body temperature is larger in men because of testosterone. This may lead to higher fevers in men vs. women, Templeton says. But the research isn’t clear, she cautions."

hehe...it begins with cold for men and the list is endless. If i catch cold or my kids catch cold, we take medicines and continue with our work. If my husband catches cold, its a different story.

First, the fan gets switched off, he covers himself with 2 sweaters and 2 head scarfs, needs hot water or hot soup every half hour, needs a new hand kerchief every one hour, needs hot water to wash his hands even if he needs to go to loo, demands that everybody drink soup along with him through the night so no one else gets it too, needs all the sofas and mattress cleaned every hour before he steps into the next room to ensure it is dust free! phew! He does all this but refuses to take medicines! no, the cold should go away the same way it came...by itself!

sometimes i wonder how would men would behave if they were to get periods every month or conceive, carry and give birth to babies!

    :grinning: Men and their tantrums!

Since @beautifullife30 has already said what I would have, I can think of only one more possible reason i.e., they are used to pampering and they demand it at the first opportunity! I may return to my routine within a week of a major surgery but the poor hubby needs a week of intensive care when he gets a cold.

: ) The above is pretty much the update I got from my friend the past two days about her husband.

One guess I have is that all births would be c-section : ) and they would take epidural when the pregnancy stick shows positive itself.

True! I remember I drove within 5 days of c-section to pick up older one.

In general, I have noticed that men simply take off from chores when sick. Women try their best to keep doing work till they absolutely can't. Man: Unless I am absolutely in the pink of health, I cannot do any chores. Woman: Unless I am just not able to even stand on my feet, I keep doing the work. : )

Thank God all women experience this with their husbands. I thought my husband is the only specimen who acts like the world is coming to an end when he gets cold. How much I tell him why on earth you are pampered so much . Can't your body tolerate a simple simple cold.
I will buy @Amulet 's explanation. . This has some logic to it.. . And the mystery in my mind behind the pampering and men's intolerance towards cold is somewhat put to rest .

Seems to be more common than the common cold. : ) This video is so hilarious. At 1:14, she asks him, "Would you like me to search my purse for ....."

Dear Op, and my dear friends

This is what it takes men to stop working and sleeping all day is cold.

They behave as if no one has ever had cold and fever and they are the only one suffering.

It's true DH becomes a sissy when it come to health and will avoid and make random excuses not to have medication.

    It's the same everywhere...:laughing::grinning:
