Lovely write up Kamala. Amazing to read what conditions the astronauts travelled under. I can't even imagine how their families must have felt as the rocket took off, not knowing whether or not they would ever hear of or from their loved ones again.

Yes, the earth is a beautiful planet. Was just thinking of this a couple of days ago when I was watching something about how an entire village was completely destroyed by a volcano eruption. Today the place is covered with a rich forest. It is pathetic how we humans, the so-called most advanced living creatures on earth, have brought the planet to near destruction.

The earth rising! Interesting to think of that. :)

    Thank you Sats @satchitananda .
Yes. The families are amazing. Not only during lift off. The days of intensive training takes the astronauts away from their families for many days.
In the movie/book The First Man - about Neil Armstrong, we get to see the families go through so much. The spouses show such a high level of tenacity and support, there is a lot to learn from them. Their sacrifice for their nation is immense.

There are many such families in every country.

I am referring to the families who have sent their sons, daughters, husbands, and wives to defend their nation.

Each civilian citizen of every country must thank these families for their highest sacrifice.

    Yes.
Thank you for your deep felt response. I can sense your pain
At least to act as a balm for you, I hope that the power of the cosmos is much stronger and greater, and Earth will constantly react to maintain the ecological balance.

In the age of Kardashians and mindless self-gratification, it is almost a relief to witness your enthusiasm and reverence for these incredible moments in history. I love imagining the excitement with which you put together these snippets for us. You are a rare type Kamala. May your tribe increase!

Thanks for the book recommendation. While looking up the book I discovered that PBS will air a new NOVA documentary on the Apollo 8 mission on December 26th: Apollo's Daring Mission Thanks to your snippet I am looking forward to it.

From Earth to Moon is the best documentary I had seen on Apollo Missions. It not only gave insight into the mission but also gave great management techniques.

Thank you @Gauri03 for your compliments.
You have no idea how soothing a balm your words are.

Robert Kurson, the book author, visited my workplace a few days ago to speak on Apollo 8.
My son and I were discussing his presentation, yesterday. At that time he (son) reminded me to watch this documentary.
It is coincidence you mention this. Will not miss it for sure. I will enjoy it even more knowing my friend is doing so too (albeit 3 hours later).

    Dear Kamala,

Thank you for bringing us this day to us after 50 years. I fleetingly read a headline about this and thought of you and very glad to see a snippet from you. I finally managed to read it and understand it better.

A rare moment of an astronaut losing cool? Speaks volumes! What an amazing sight it must have been! The current generation is aware of the world they live in and I am sure we are working towards leaving a better earth than the one we inherited.

Enjoyed reading it. Thank you for bringing it to us.

    Than you @Srama .
Glad to note it helped understand it better.

Sometimes I am jealousof the astronauts for they get to see our Earth from a different perspective, but my jealousy vanishes when I learn about the rigourous training they undergo. Need tremendous amount of mental and physical strength!

Dear Kkrish! What a write up! what an enthusiasm!
While those astronauts are giving their life for the nation, we are polluting Mother earth without any any forethought.Trembling to think of the consequences when mother earth is going to take revenge !
It is surprising that at such a young age you are taking interest in 'space science' , a rarity to find.
Though I am unable to get at the exact technology, It is an interesting study.I have saved all your articles in separate folder to have a grasp at leisure and for gifting to my grandson at Singapore, who evinces lot of interest in such studies.
Million thanks for the wonderful article.

    Thank you Ma'am.
I must thank you for your lovely comments and compliments.:worship2:
Yes ma'am. Mother Earth has already begun to respond.
The Polar ices are melting fast and our oceans are rising. The weather patterns are changing, though the change is so slow that we are not noticing it. A number of animals are at the brink of extinction, which is going to throw the ecological balance in a spin.

However, (I am not sure if this is good news or bad news) the human fertility rate has decreased and more countries are reporting a decline in birth rates.

The credit goes to my father ma'am. He introduced me to this field when I was eight or nine years old. I think I should write about this.

This is great! I am so so happy.
You have made my day greater by these words. My wishes for your grandson to pursue a path in this field and join the scientists list of great inventors/discoverers.

Let me go and work on the next article, which is half-done. While I do not want to give an excuse, my other responsibilities have taken priority over this the past few months.
