Anyone up for quitting sugar with me?

I've been working out regularly for 2 years now, but I've not yet been able to reach my desired weight for various reasons, the primary one being my diet. Whenever I reduce intake of sugar and refined flour based food I see my tummy getting flatter and digestion improving. But I always keep going back to sweets and bread and cake.

So this time I decided I will just quit sugar. I had quit sugar once for about 8 months and I felt great during that time. So I know I can do it, but it's easy to slip back even when you think you've achieved your goal, that's one thing I'll remember this time.

This is actually my 3rd day without sugar. I intend to continue avoiding all added sugar in my diet. No cheating with "natural" sugars like jaggery or brown sugar.

Fruits, yes, added sugars, no. Even with fruits I intend to take it cool. It's easy to go crazy with dates and kismis and grapes especially when your system is craving sugar.

Please join me if anyone is interested in doing this. Or wish me luck!

    I'm in.

I dont drink coffee/tea, so there's no possibility of direct sugar intake.

But my main hurdle is avoiding refined foods- Bread/boost/biscuits etc.
Also, I have stopped baking cakes since I am unable to resist my temptation

I am also planning to avoid added sugars but very difficult to control. Although I’m eating fruits like banana, figs and dates.

Quitting cold turkey is what works best in my experience. Just expect the first 2 weeks to be miserable.

It's been a year plus, I quit the following:
    1. Anything made of white sugar.
    2. Anything made of all purpose flour(maida).
    3. Anything made of milk and milk products.
    Exception:
Sometimes, when I eat outside, in unavoidable situations, I eat ghee, butter or white sugar as ingredients.
I prefer to eat sweets made of jaggery, palm sugar. It's hard to get sweets made of pure jaggery, outside. So I mostly, make myself.
Quiting maida or milk products was not difficult for me...but white sugar. I always crave for sweets after lunch. Initially for a few months, it was difficult. After that I don't crave for sugar. The more you eat, the more you crave.
Start a group for No Sugar No Maida No Milk products...

I'm in! I quit, cold turkey, about a week ago and have been feeling much better since I did. I'm not really a sweets or cakes/biscuits person so that hasn't been difficult. I've always preferred coffee and tea unsweetened, so that has been okay too. My main thing know is avoiding hidden sources of sugar, which aren't always obvious (i.e. pasta sauce, almond milk).

    Dearies...
It is tough in a household where there are children to be raised. However...
Post what you had eaten everyday. For breakfast, lunch, in-betweens, and dinner. When you write things down (here, or in your own computer somewhere) you can look at it, and appreciate your achievement. And all you have to do is to avoid it for one more meal.....at a time.
    Good luck.

For this, just I changed my sugar spoon of dabba to small :D

Almost reduced to 90% of sugar contended drinks. Yes sometimes chocolates to refrain myself taking more.

As I cannot stop 100% keeping it in limit better for me than taking the guilt of rule breaking :disappointed:

    This is the key.

I will add ... Do allow yourself a small piece of sweet one particular day and meal a week.
    Let's say Saturday, dinner.

On Saturday, dinner time be relaxed. If you have the small amount of sweet do not be guilty. If you can pass the evening without the sweet, good for you. You just have to wait one more week.

This will help you keep off easier, than total denying. Psychological.

Also, keeping off maida (all-purpose flour) and factory made goodies such as cakes, biscuits, cookies, bagels, bread, etc will be more beneficial.

I keep to ethnic foods. I would rather have a laddu than a piece of cake. Laddu has besan whereas cake has maida.

Home cooked food versus eating out ... greater control with what goes into the meal.
