    Hi all,
I'm in need of suggestions and/or tips to plan a trip to Las Vegas(LV) and Los Angles(LA) with my parents(as they are here in USA now) during xmas vacation. In total, it will be me, my DH, my parents and DS(who is under 2) so in total 5 of us. We will be flying to Las vegas and then will have a road trip to Los Angles. So, with parents and a toddler, how can we make this trip a less tiresome but more fun. We plan to stay two nights in LV and may be 3 nights in LA. We want to take them to casino, some shows...In LA, we want to take them to universal studio(and not to Disney as my parents may not go for all the rides). That's the high level plan. Please, pour in your suggestions as to what may make it a worthy trip? Like which places to visit and what to cover? Universal studio and shows seems so expensive...we want to make it an affordable trip. So any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

no replies yet :( I'm sure many of you might have taken your parents to such places in US. Any thoughts or tips that would make a easy and affordable trip will be helpful.

Las Vegas - usual tourist attractions

    (1) Visit few hotels & their casinos such as Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Venetian and Wynn (2) Plan to see one show like Cirque du Soleil acrobatics in Treasure Island or The Dream in Wynn Las Vegas. (3) Las Vegas Strip Walk to see the Night Lights (4) Visit hoover dam, popular tourist spot.

LA - The usual tourist spots

    (1) Disneyland - worth visiting, if you haven't seen any. But, most enjoyable with kids
    (2) Studio Tour - Universal Studios Hollywood; Movie set /scenes from Jurassic park, Jaws, King kong, harry potter etc
    (3) Los Angeles Zoo
    (4) Aquarium
    (5) Santa Monica Pier

It is once in a life time event, go for it.

I dunno much about parents because as adults they can take care of themselves also for rides etc but for kid as he is under 2 and you guys are driving u can try few things like pls buy him a lot of toys like surprise toys dont give him all or show him before journey! Just buy his favorite ones especially cars, some light and music toys, puzzles etc. Always have tablet or phobe charged and download his favorite rhymes.Whenever he cries or feel bored give him a one toy and entertain him like when we were driving with my 2 yr old last weeknd from Az to Lv alltogether it was a 6.5 hr drive with one break included! So what we did was we gave him a toy truck and asked hin to see on road if he can see real trucks so he was very excited whenever he saw truck passing by he was like "tluck tluck" and similarly with cars he used to take his car and point all other real cars! Also we got some crayons, magnetic alphabets, puzzles. This is with toys.. with food i kind of went little liberal and offered him sweet treats like store brought juices chilled a bit in freezer box , pineapple chunks, flavored yogurt different brands also couple of welches brand fruit snacks he became a fan to those fruit snack packets, also some crackers which i didnt give at home to keep up that excitement! But make sure he is not allergic to any of them though! Then we played a couple of games like silly games like i cover my face and turn away them all of sudden i come lil close and say BAA..kind of silly things Like!! These are some of my inputs! And last pls start early in that way they will be tired and sleep u can cover halfway. Also take a breaks in between but ofcourse at well secured areas never go into isolated rest areas or something with a kid!! Whenever he is cranky pullover let him stretch and everybody in the car should be relaxed if u guys get into anxiety it affects kid! Whenever needed always look for diaper change promptly for poop diaper change pls pull over securely open car doors carefully and change it as the last thing we need is a rashy bottom where he should sit longer hours! Rest as u got parents they will entertain better too! Whatever u guys do donot yell in car as u drive with max 70mph for longer hours wind disturbance affects kid ears combined with yelling they can go to cranky mood easily! Now and then offer water as his ears may be blocked with drive as there will be mountains around!

The air quality is really bad around LA due to the fire . So before planning your trip make sure everything safe and secure.

Thanks so much for bringing about the wildfire. Yes, I will have to wait and watch if the air quality gets better by the holidays. With kids and elderly parents, I wouldn't want to risk the after effects of the fire on them. But will watch closely.

Much needed tips/suggestions. See, that's why I posted in IL's. I might have overlooked few of my kids needs if it wasn't for your lengthy suggestions. Thank you much. I can now imagine how hard it can be for my son to sit in the car seat for long trips. So, far we haven't gone more than 1 hour drive so I might have been easily blind folded. Downloading his favorite rhymes/songs is a very good one. I always use to play from Youtube which wastes my data. Is there any free app/web site that you suggest to download the rhymes/movie songs? In past, I have had pain to download some in my mobile phones. Much thanks for your valuable information on handling small kid on a long drive.

    Hi OP,

Great suggestions so far..here are mine.
you can subscribe to youtube and download videos at home and play it later. They have a free trial for a month.
As for Las vegas, try to find a hotel with a kitchen, would be helpful when traveling with parents and kids.
Personally i think the flying is the harder part, having them buckled in seat for the take off and landing, have enough books and
    Toys to distract your kid.
If it was me, I would have planned a trip to grand canyon from LV instead of LA, but depends on what your parents and your interests are, as your kid is prob too small to enjoy theme parks anyway!
Lots of shows in LV, circue du soleil is really good.
    Have a great trip!
