    Hi all,
I moved to US 2 years back. I don't know completely about the medical system here.
I got my positive pregnancy test at home today. This will be my second pregnancy. I had my first delivery in India. So,i really don't know where to start with. How to choose the OB or the maternity hospital.
I know it all depends on the insurance which I have. I am just looking for the parameters i should check before choosing the hospital or OB.
I have an OB near my place and it is a OB office(only one OB in that office). Not a practice. I am on a dilemma to choose an OB from a practice (where there will be many OBs) or single dr office. And should i consider the hospital also where the doctor delivers? What should I check while selecting the hospital? And do the hospitals have any OB office inside?

    Please share your inputs.
    Thank you.

Do you have a family physician?. He/she is be able to suggest the best in your area. In my case, I have consulted, OBY clinic and the doctors are linked to the main hospital for delivery. Here, when you are in pain, you are supposed to go to emergency room of the hospital. So it will be good to select the hospital, you can reach within 10-20 minutes by car. It is not necessary that your doctor, will be there for delivery. Who ever on duty can attend you. In my case ,my gyno attended one case and another one in second case,as she was away.

I don't know what exists in your area, but you can use Google to find the nearest oby practice, get an appointment or call them to ask these questions, they will help you.

Thank you so much for your reply. Appreciate it.
I do have a physician. But I didn't check with her. Just went to her once for the annual physical.
I googled obgyn near me and found a doctor office. There is only one OB in that office. I am just worried that some on call doctor will attend our delivery. They will not know us or the medical history right?
Is it better to choose the practice with many doctors or with only doctor? If we choose a practice with many doctors, we can get a chance to see them in a rotation right? Any inputs?

If I remember correctly, we need to register at the hospital by 8 or 9 months, so they will have all details and will be ready for your delivery, so that you can walk in. They will also conduct a hospital tour for us, so that we will be very familiar with the hospital and delivery rooms, provide you with the number to contact if you have pain. They also conduct classes for new mom and spouse, if we want we can join it. I haven't seen any other doctor in my OBY clinic except my doctor. If one dont have any health issues, some time nurse practitioner will attend your monthly visit. But you can request for doctor. My doctor attended me from pregnancy to delivery date. As my doctor was away, one of the doctor from OBY attended my delivery. I didn't consult or meet that doctor before. When you are in pain, you will not worry about all these. They will give the best care, instruct you very well about it, so you will not have confusion. Your husband can be there to attend you in the delivery room. Nurses will attend you once you there, doctor and full team will join at the time of delivery. Dont worry, your oby clinic will guide you very well. Talk to your family clinic, they will help you to find the right one
