Me Too?

If you are talking about statue of limitations on criminal prosecution, then sure let the lawmakers come up with those laws, depending upon the severity.
As far as I know not a single woman who has come forward, has filed a criminal case. But these stories are not about criminal cases, it about highlighting the double standards that are applied in professional and social situations. These stories need to be told and there should never be a time limit on that.
Again, since you seem to have so much faith in our judicial system that women can get Justice for sexual harassment, then may be men can use the same judicial system and sue them for slander?

 

There is nothing like harmless flirtation , what seems like harmless to men may be extremely uncomfortable for the woman , so men should be cautious and that is what this #me too will do ,put fear in men's mind and give courage to woman to speak out.

We need to see excessive drinking and sexual harassment as two separate issues.

Excessive drinking is injurious to health , finances and will make the person vulnerable to theft , rape,murder , so we should teach our kids both men and woman to drink responsibly if they choose to drink . It is a vice which can escalate quite quickly.

Next teaching men to not become predators and watch those behavior with woman - absolutely , this is very essential . The only problem is you will never know when all the men in the world have learnt this lesson and also you can never predict when you will encounter a criminal or a sex offender -- so along with teaching our sons we should teach our girls to be careful to the extent possible . Using common sense will only help oneself to keep out of danger . Being obtuse and throwing caution to wind because we expect men to behave is not going to work always . I also think we should teach some strategies to our kids to try and identify and escape such situations just similar to self defense stategies.

I agree that everyone should take enough precautions whether men or women to be safe when they are out.

I agree. But if a woman is inebriated and vaguely remembers being sexually assaulted, can she prove her point? If a man is inebriated, being accused of sexual assault, can he clearly remember that he was not involved? Sometimes, they are connected issues.

Perpetrators forget who and how they harassed but the victim never does. The memories and scars of the harassment last an entire lifetime. Ask any woman here. I can tell you exactly what I was wearing when someone slapped my back in 1998 !
let’s not paint women as these hyper sensitive creatures that take offense to everything. We can take a good non sexual joke , we can hug men when it is done in a friendly manner.
What chetan Bhagat/ rajat kapoor did is not harmless flirting. Asking a woman for her pic or her vital stats during the course of professional interview is workplace harassment. Or giving interviews in a hotel room on the bed MJ Akbar style.
If there was a time limit Aloknath would continue being sanskari ! Are you ok with brushing that rape under the carpet ?

@Viswamitra I brought up excessive drinking here because the details of the Vikas Bahl case really shocked me. Read her account of being in the hotel room and being barely conscious but sensing that he was there on the bed . It gave me goosebumps. He would have come to the room even if she wasn’t drunk but there was a good chance for her to defend, scream or atleast try to.
A relative of mine always trained her young daughters to never accept any drink from people they do not know well. It’s a rule that they have to order and collect the drinks themselves.
In a perfect world men will behave and women can afford to let their guard down and enjoy drinking. Unfortunately the world isn’t perfect and one cannot predict 100 % who is a creep and who isn’t.

 

That is the peril of loosing their senses ,only a fair investigation can reveal facts

 

Excercise caution and don't flirt at all. Is there a need or compulsion to flirt ? You can just have a normal conversation
