    Hi Ouroboros!
Good selection of books. Wish you had included Nonsense Novels by Stephen Leacock. I love everything nonsense!

    Cheeniya,

Leacock is the chanticleer of comedy. Also, humour is personalized. Noticed that eccentric writing I find amusing and hilarious lose out on others. I excitedly email snippets of the most hilarious kind (reckoned by me) to my book club friends and rather than a chortle I hear a commiseration that I lost my mind to have found such obnoxious writing laughable. Few weeks ago I read Jose Saramago's Cain and found it breath-taking, which means you forget to breathe while reading the book so absorbed in its funny narrative about Biblical retelling. But with Leacock I have no such apprehensions. If the other person does not laugh at Leacock then their mental faculties are limescaled and need a thorough cleanse. How could one restrain the natural laugh behind:

"Many of my friends are under the impression that I write these humorous nothings in idle moments when the wearied brain is unable to perform the serious labours of the economist. My own experience is exactly the other way. The writing of solid, instructive stuff fortified by facts and figures is easy enough. There is no trouble in writing a scientific treatise on the folk-lore of Central China, or a statistical enquiry into the declining population of Prince Edward Island. But to write something out of one's own mind, worth reading for its own sake, is an arduous contrivance only to be achieved in fortunate moments, few and far between. Personally, I would sooner have written "Alice in Wonderland" than the whole Encyclopaedia Britannica." -- Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.

Can you beat his The Awful Fate of Melpomenus Jones? It had me in splits. A great pity that he was killed in his early forties. He had an uncommon sense of humor.

If you like chick lit novels, I highly recommend Sophie Kinsella's books. They're light and funny :)
