    The Matter of Muthalakku:
I went to Tamil medium primary school for a few years, before switching to English medium, and because of parents' move, and job transfers etc.. muddled through a young life with various schools, syllabus schemes, and such. After many years, I got early release (VRS....yippieee) from work. Now I am catching up with Tamil.... with news and conversation programs.

Naturally I go to the info' outlet at my finger tips - the internet TV. In a discussion/interview program, I heard the word "முத்தலாக்கு....முத்தலாக்கு" getting repeated by the fellow introducing the topic, the context developed a little more, with "women" coming into his talk. I parsed the word into முத்தல் (muththal, i.e., kiss) and ஆக்கு (Aakku, i.e., get it done), and decided that the topic has something to do with women getting harassed in the Indian scene, with something new -- forcing kisses on the random women, without their consent. I got more than a little :rage:.

As the program went on .... I understood that my parsing was wrong, and they were talking about muslim women's concern, and the indian Supreme court's decision of making the Three-Talaq-Divorce illegal, and reinstating the rights of muslim women who had suffered the consequences of the three-talaq-divorce. Three is represented my the Tamil prefix "mu", followed by the word Talaq transliterated into Tamil as Thalakku.:facepalm::facepalm:

One of those "one (pause) nightstand ----- one night stand" mixup confusions.
I was left LOL'ing as I watched the show, understanding about a third of what they were talking about.[IMG]

hahaha....the Ais' loving crowd of BiggB-2 watchers in the Tamil Nation (Tamil Nadoo) are all probably titillated with some things she says that are understood the way they want. In a much wider context, would it make for a longer honeymoon season in life, if H and W do not speak the same language ? This question is probably good for the new "Rehab" thread.

Two dumb persons would be an overkill; it will eliminate the joy of the cycle of
miscomprehension, riff, learning, reconciliation, joy, and back to miscomprehension.
Would couples who have different mother tongues develope a greater tolerance in their interactions with the outside world ? Travel into other cultures and experiencing such things that are different from home is supposed to reduce prejudices, narrow-mindedness etc.. (Mark Twain Quote), perhaps living (and breeding) with someone of a different culture could be an experience that may be way more deep. We may still be at the topic of "why Ais is still there in the house?" ;) or.. NOT. It is all a matter of miscomprehension.

I am interested in what goes on in Europe, and the UK.

Recently Theresa May (UK's PM) gave a talk in which she mentioned the word "Taoiseach", referring to the gaelic title for the Irish Prime Minister. (The Irish PM, Varadkar, is a descendent from Mumbaikars.) The way Theresa May pronounced it, I heard it as "Tea Shop".

Recently (like a few months ago), there was a big hullaballoo in the UK when a member of parliament (House of Lords) referred to Leo Varadkar as a "typical indian"..... for ignoring protocol in going to the UK across the northern irish border without proper notice, approvals etc...

In these modern times of migration of our people to work and live elsewhere, the next gen. of our families would be of a different nationality, but yet, others would look upon them as "typical indian", and ascribe whatever stereotype they hold about indians to our children, who are not typical anything.

What have we done to prepare them for being regarded as "typical", even though they are not ?

    =============================

Weirdly enough, even though Theresa May wants a post-Brexit soft border between Northern Ireland and Leo Varadkar's country of Ireland, the "typical indian" episode seems to show that the UK elites want a hard border, never mind the Good Friday Agreement to stop of the violence in Northern Ireland, and make it easy for people to move across the border in Ireland.

    Nonya,
That's probably Moo-thalakku(talaq) not, muthalaak (long moo (#3) versus short mu)
    The long moo is 3

She is in NYC in America now... and says that UK will become like HK :fearful:-- low tax country that is good for business.

Poor people are going to suffer a lot more, a lot quicker after March 2019.
