Kongthong, a remote Khasi village in Meghalaya of the Indian sub-continent is characterized by a unique age-old practice of communication through whistling. Kongthong village is located in Khatarshnong Laitkroh Tehsil of East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya, India. It is perhaps the only place in India where people communicate among themselves through whistling and using different tunes to call each other. Hoo.ho..hoooo:)

Wow interesting . But wonder if people recognise that it’s addressed to them if they are little far.

And night times it’s little creepy :smilingimp:

:) Thanks for the comment, Shravs. So tough to imagine the scenes and what I thought worse would be to remember 600+tunes! What happens if someone has a bad sense of tune! Nontheless the concept is unique.

Feels anything from amusing to strange to us but their practical purpose has some logics too. Our untrained ears can't distinguish beyond a few variations!

:hello:about whistle language perhaps our Bhisma Pitha perhaps could throw more light. I heard Dr shivprasad whistling away classical Carnatic and devotional in presence of distinguished vips.
As language how do they whisper by whistleing to each other when need arises? Criminals among only whistle speaking persons how they can be interrogated or how their last statement can be filed in the court?
Any way I whistle away some times in kitchen in her absence and i am alone!
    Godbless whistles too.

Whistles, in general, are frowned upon. Perhaps the crazy teens are to be blamed for it. But tuneful whistling is a definite art form.
