    Dear OP,

Hope you got lot of options to shop around online.

I have been doing online shopping for indian attires ever since I moved outside India, some are instant hits, some are learnt lessons with whole in the pocket ;) but with the trail and error i grew older to know genuinity of the seller by the product :D so all said done, I have recently been shopping with "Traditional Trendz" (look up for them in FB) she is local seller in our city and is good with service as well as trends (she has most latest stuff, if you want traditional type, she can help with that as well), there are some other botiques like "Mughdhas", "varuni gopen collections"(have personal exp and satisfied), "Madhuras designer studio"friends exp awesome) and there are some other bunch of botiques who are doing good job, they handover finished product with in couple of weeks. Hope this helps

I know, right? It is impossible to ‘unsee’ once we have seen those beauties! :) Now I am already in the process of justifying the price to myself lol if it makes you feel better

Thank you. Yes I got good leads from this amazing place and passed them on. I am also saving for my reference.

I checked out the names you mentioned on FB. Looks very nice but they are not local to me or even nearby unfortunately. But good to know.

Your post have raised a very good related point though. On my FB feed there are some shopping sites where sellers routinely advertise lovely saris and dresses. when I lclick on the details of the saree or chudi though it usually says ‘ships from India’ or ‘ local shipping applies’. This raised a doubt in my head - Are these sellers local? Do they have the clothes or are they going to order on my behalf? This confusion made me decide not pursue this further. If they are a local middleman and it is going to ship from India then what’s the point right? They will have as much control over the finished product as me - was my reasoning. Can you throw some light on this? Have you run across this kind of thing?

the only issues i find with online ordering is, silk sarees the color does not come out as is visualised and we may be spending through our nose to feel it is n ot the one, after it lands in our hands.. the seller definitely has the disclaimer, that there would be variation in color rep in the photography, and since it is handloom, handover there may be irregularities in warps and wefts.

the highest @ i have transacted online was a 7500/- for a geecha banaras saree ..and yet i am not that 100% satisfied to be honest..the color was slightly off

so go to ones your friends, or friends' of friends vouch, even then it purely is about how well you get support.. i have a couple of experiences, there is man who was referred to me by a friend for some handloom cotton and silk and khun blouses and the way he handles your request for pictures and explains details is so good.
another seller from whom i got a handloom ponduri khadi saree, and she was so friendly. i told her i am height and dusky and i am looking at colors that would me..she came up with some good ones, and also encouraged to try other colors..it was even more suprising to get a personal note stating, she believes that it would look good on me, and hope i enjoy it ..
there is this seller, my dd uses to buy sarees for me, her aunts and this seller never says more than delivering it.. her stuff is good, and the only reason she still goes with her..

recent days, there is so much disappointment, cheating on fb too (not on fb, but my friends say so) so be sure of whom you go to.. try with a simple and low cost rather one. some sellers like kanakavalli, palam, nalli have showrooms tacross. ,hey know the power of social network, hope everybody has a pleasant buying experience.

    Hi OP,

If I get your question right, are you asking if the sellers are local to the US or India?

If you are ordering from any online site (eg: Jabong/Mirraw/limeroad/flipkart) other than shop owned(pothys/RMKV/Nalli) act like amazon, like they get the products from various vendors and display on their site, if you place order the product will be directly shipped from vendor to us but you can track your order on the site itself, just like how it works in amazon/zuilily/shein (as in the US).

But with the fb pages that i mentioned in my actual reply, they are boutiques, so you directly work with the person who will be shipping your end product, they are sole responsible to take your requirements, colors, measurements and till they deliver the end product. They too work with people in India only (as it is Indian wear they cannot get any of the materials in the US), but the only difference they have their own tailor who will stitch for us (they will be responsible from buying the material to stitching and delivering the order)- I guess I answered your question.

    Thanks
    Sravani

    @sravanitenali,

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. Yes from your original post I did understand that you are talking about boutiques who happen to advertise on social media. After reading your reply and also the warning by @Shanvy I have decided that if at all I buy here it is better to only go with known ( through friends) local boutique sellers/people as risk of miscommunication or other problems is high. Thank you so much dear!

@troubledmom as i said, it all narrows down to your comfort, seller attitude, communication too..
This is a bomkaai handloom cotton that i got from a seller..and happy too.. well have some friend's who raise a brow at the price for cotton, and tell me i will be better off buying a silk cotton or silk border saree..but for me anyday cotton. I end up attending marriages in cotton..
