These days we get so many supplements like Vit D3, calcium , Iron , Multi vit etc. But are they really safe for us to consume regularly? Vit D deficiency is a common problem for most of us. So sometimes doctors prescribe the OTC supplements for the same.
Will they help in maintaining the levels ?

Few months ago I started taking Nature Made, brand Biotin supplements but my periods got delayed . Later when I researched I got to know that for some people it can delay the periods . Like wise there are various supplements available .
Some even say the gelatin in those capsules are harmful if consumed regularly .

By having balanced diet we can have required levels of all vitamins but alone from diet is it possible to maintain sufficient levels ?

For e.g. some may be allergic to dairy products so they may be deficient in calcium so very few food items have calcium but apart from them supplements are the only way but they can cause side effects.

Some may be vegetarians who are deficient in many minerals and vitamins .which are not available in vegetarian diet . Wat are the options for them ?

And even for 40+ women they recommend calcium supplements . Is it really safe to consume ?

So what is the best solution ? Need your opinion

At your age, good and nutritious food + sunlight + exercise should be enough. You may just add a multivitamin tablet to that. As and when doctors find any deficiency, they will add something to your list. But I do know that in USA many supplements are taken regularly by all.(My friends do that:))

It is kind of torture after each doctor visit...low on this and that, list is getting longer? Taking Vitamin D, Iron & B12.

A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down:rolleyes:

I take a multivitamin because I follow a vegetarian and mostly dairy-free diet, so I need to supplement B12. I also take vitamin D3 since I am deficient and I avoid the sun as much as I can, but I do get my levels tested regularly. I am not too worried about calcium and iron since I consume a good amount of greens and some tofu. This has been working so far.

Supplements can be beneficial, but the key to vitamin and mineral success is eating a balanced diet. Before taking vitamin and mineral supplements, talk to your physician about your personal dietary plan.

Vit b complex capsules are safer. But today many many meds with various vitamin combination s are available in the market. Whatever u take just take opinion of a doctor and then proceed.

Yes. I am low on Vit D and B12 . So doctor suggested supplements .Especially being a vegetarian certain vitamins are difficult to get from diet alone ! :worried:
And Vit D sun exposure is a must but it’s too hot at this place so supplements are the only option. But worried about the ingredients in it.

Vitamin D supplementation is fine but its not a vitamin that's easily absorbed by diet. Evening sun perhaps....
