My mom uses pigeon electric pressure cooker and is totally in love with it. She says it’s very much similar to IP. Only drawback is the hike in the electricity bill

I tried the katchi Hyderabadi chicken biryani using the instant pot instructions from this link and turned great. Kachi Chicken Dum Biryani(Instant Pot)

Also tried my family’s andhra chicken kurma recipe and was great too.

    Andhra Chicken kurma
Marinate 1/2 kg skin less chicken pieces (with bones) with enough salt, chilli powder,turmeric,2 spoons curds for 30 mins, few curry leaves, few sliced onions for 30 mins.

Add in oil and ghee to an Instant pot, turn on the sauté mode, cover with a glass lid. When it reads hot add in few cloves, cinnamon stick, sauté and add curry leaves, sliced onions, 4 Thai green chillies (slit length wise),cover with a lid and fry till the onions turn golden brown.Add ginger garlic paste, mix well, cover with a lid and fry till the raw smell leaves.

Add the smoothly grounded chicken masala paste (2 tbsp grated fresh or dried coconut, 2 tbsp poppy seeds, 1 inch stick cinnamon,4 cloves,2 tbsp coriander seeds) and sauté for a minute. Add the chicken, mix well. Cover with a glass lid and sauté for 5 mins.

The chicken oozes some moisture, add in the required amount of water to make a gravy. Switch off sauté mode, close with the pressure cooking lid and turn on manual setting and pressure cook for 10 mins with the whistle in sealing mode.Do a quick release. Turn on the sauté mode for 2-5 mins, remove and garnish with cilantro. Serve hot with rice/pulkha/chapathi/poori/medu Vada.

Anyone put Instant Pot lid in the dishwasher top rack regularly?

The IP website says to wash lid in dishwasher top rack. Many other websites where bloggers post their IP recipes, say not to put lid in dishwasher. They look so confident and fresh in their equally spic and span kitchen : ) They can't be wrong!

I haven't so far, but want to start doing it for the convenience.

    @Rihana,

Instant Pot lid is like a diamond necklace to be handled with velvet cloth. The lid should be kept upside down on top of the Instant Pot after hand washing and wiping it clean in a safe place.

Rotimatic is like a Platinum Bangles and should be handled with due care and diligence. Preparation, pouring oil, water and flour and cleaning including detailed cleaning to be done only by the husband.

LOL. : ) Necklace and bangles done.. what kitchen appliance or thingie is like a finger ring? : )

One day I put IP lids in the dishwasher just to clear up the sink as a friend was dropping by at short notice. Later took them out and hand washed. DH didn't notice that I took them out. Anyway, so one day he loaded lid in dishwasher and ran it. I got so mad at him. Hopping mad. Then, kids also started using IP and now the two IP lids are always in the sink. I've given up and am putting it in dishwasher upper rack.

DH says I love my first IP like women of yore cared for the brass, steel etc kitchenware and bathroom "buckets" they got from mom's house as part of marriage. : )

IP sure has changed my life. I make bhindi/okra in it. Can't believe how well it comes out. I now buy bhindi almost every week no matter how expensive it is.

    Recipe: Okra/bhindi fry in IP

Very basic, posting recipe so beginners or those still not sure IP is worth buying, can benefit.

Bhindi/okra - 1.5 lb chopped into 3/4 inch pieces preferably.
Onion - chopped into inch sized squares
Tomato - 3 small, firm ones. chopped.
    green chilli -2, curry leaves
    Oil, zeera (cumin seeds),
dhaniya (coriander) powder, salt, turmeric, dry mango powder (1 tablespoon)

IP in saute mode. When hot, pour oil. (add oil after it says HOT lessens sticking to the pot).
    Add cumin seeds, curry leaves.
Add onions. Stir. Cook very well.

Add bhindi, salt, turmeric, dhaniya powder, dry mango powder, stir well.
The bhindi will fill up the IP, so add powders, stir, add some more, stir again. Only stir to add powders, so this bhindi and powders adding step should take max 1 minute.

Here comes the almost magic part:
    Add the tomatoes. Mix gently.
Close the IP with lid. Knob in seal position. Cook in Manual mode, high pressure, for 3-4 minutes. (have to experiment).

Quick Release. Then open lid immediately. Yummy bhindi ready to eat.

Is it slimy after cooking -- very little.
Is there liquid after cooking -- sometimes. still tastes so good.

I am going to try low pressure cooking one time.

    Hi @Rihana,

Thank you for the bhindi recipe, my favorite! Simple but perfect recipe for a new user like me.
Is it possible to do your bhindi fry using a PIP method so I can add less water?
