    Dear friendabc,
Next time ask your sister to ask her the year she completed +2. And your sister should tell her that your sister completed two years later. So she is the aunty. Ask your sister to say 'Now its actually me who should call you aunty... Ha ha ha... '

And dont forget to look at her facial reaction.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear,

Ask your sister to call her elder aunty as she is elder to your sister.

It's easy to address relatives according to our relationship with them,
But for addressing ladies who are not related to me and are acquaintances , or neighbours or ladies I need to interact on day to day basis,
I usually follow a rule of calling a lady who is my agre group or is up to 5-7 years older than me by their name..
10+years older than me as Akka/Didi etc depending on language and cultures...
Only if age difference is around 15 years plus and the lady is quite elderly, has some grown up kids maybe high school, college going kids etc, depending on look, situation, and age Is known to me I address as auntie..i go with the flow, I kind of can judge who needs to be called aunty and whom shouldn't be called aunty.
So far so good and no one has got offended by me , touch wood..hehe.

I'm seeing everywhere people who are married/ married n having kids are aunty.
Same age group people to address as aunty/ Didi though they are elder than the concerned person.
Just because some one is married or have children early people tend to think they are prev gen.
Seriously should address with name or relationship with aquitances address ma'm.
Most men address as ma'm only ladies pull other ladies by aunty...
There was one show in Zee long back,a comedy series, "hum paanch", there will be a neighbor character who will always say ''aunty matthh kahona"
    Upon addressing as aunty.

and still till the end of that serial they kept on calling her 'aunty':grin::D ..anyway that was a comedy series and here its reality ...
and u r absolutely right:clap2: ...men generally refer to other women as 'madam' ...psychology says that women (in general) r a bit jealous of other women (not all of course) and they view them as their competition ..even though men also consider other men as competition but they dont stoop to personal level . ive read somewhere that the more suppressed u r, more jealousy comes...and in general women r somewhat suppressed in our society.
oh one more point ..have u observed that convent educated girls /women dont call 'aunty' cuz theyve better knowledge of etiquettes as far as "modern customary code of polite behaviour in society " is concerned .
    :ciao:

I clearly remember thinking in my high school days whether to call my neighbor who got married just then "geetha aunty" instead of "chechi". Aunty meant just that to me, an elder who is married and a sign of respect. "Chechi" was still close to a peer.

Anyway I decided to keep continuing to call her chechi since changing it overnight was weird.

I got my first aunty call when I was in college, around 20 yrs old, from 2 middle school girls. I surely did not look like an aunty then. I was a bit taken aback when I heard it. But didn't think much of it until later when I saw the advertisement for a hair dye where a girl called a guy "bhaiyya" and his spouse "aunty". Only then did I realize that some people took offense when called "aunty".

I am certain that I might have offended a few at least during the course of my life though that was not my intent. Now I am wiser and call most elderly as chechi and around +5-7 yrs by name.

Also chechi, aunty etc is easy if you can't recall someone's name.
