Arundati gently touched the play button and the audio began. After the sound of footsteps of someone walking mixed with some mild instrumental of a bollywood song and random voices, there came a familiar voice pushing the music to the background.

“So far it has gone well”, a male voice spoke which Abhinay immediately recognized as Arjun’s.

“But, how long do you think you can keep her sedated”, Anita asked and all the three listening recognized her and also understood whom she is talking about.

“That is there! But I couldn’t think of a better plan”, he said.

“What I told you is a better plan”, she said.

“But it’s too dangerous”

“I wonder who is the cop here”, Anita commented and Abhinay wondered whether Arjun rolled his eyes at the comment.

Arjun spoke after a pause, “I need to think about this”

“Arjun, we don’t have that much time!”

She continued, “Remember! This will give both of us what we want! Think about Nethra” her voice persuasive.

“Hmm.. are you sure about this?” he asked.

“Of course, yes! Moreover, do you have a better plan?”

There was no sound for a few seconds except for the background noise.

“OK.. let’s go by your plan.. but you need to be very careful Anita”, he said finally.

“I will take care.. anything for him”, she added excited.

“Anything for her!” he said mimicking her and she laughed mildly.

“When?”

“Today!”

Abhinay, who sat frozen hearing everything suddenly turned to Mithun and said, “Call Guru! Imemdiately!”


Anita got down from the Auto and looked at the huge bungalow that stood alone in around 5 acres of land. Though the land is covered with uneven array of trees and shrubs, she knew that it belonged to a single person. She drew in a deep breath and turned to the auto driver, who was looking at her with curious eyes.

“Bhaiyya.. wait here. I will be back within 30 minutes”, she said.

He nodded and she walked towards the huge wood paneled iron gates. She pressed the calling bell near the gate and waited.

Within seconds a security guard appeared through the small pedestrian gate. “Yes Mam”, his tone questioning.

“I am here to meet Mr. Malhotra”, she said in a clear confident tone.

The guard looked confused as he answered, “But Mam, sir is in Delhi and wont visit here often. You can contact the Delhi office”

“No.. I didn’t mean Mr. Ashish Malhotra. I want to meet his son, Viren… Viren Malhotra”, she clarified casually.

She noticed that his manner changed a little and he became more guarded. “Viren sir is not here Mam”, he answered.

“Oh that’s bad, then, may I ask where I can meet him?” she said maintaining the casual note in her voice.

“I am not at liberty to discuss that”, he said like he was delivering a well practiced dialogue.

Anita breathed out and rolled her eyes, pulling an irritated look on her face. “Sir, I don’t think you knew whom you are talking to. If you cant talk about Viren then I wanna meet someone who can”, she said stressing each syllable of her last words.

The guard looked equally irritated, “But, I don’t..” before he could continue Anita interrupted again. “Ok let me say it. I am Viru’s girl friend and I need to meet him. I know he is in Bangalore. If you still don’t let me in…”, as she spoke fast, the intercom rang inside the gate.

The guard with his eyes on her stepped in and attended the call.

“Sir”

………….

“She wants to meet Virenji”

………….

“I did.. but..”

…………

“Ok Sir”

He peeped out again and signaled her to come in.

She followed him into a huge living room. The guard showed one of the sofas and went out. She sat there waiting. 'Will I meet him today? Or will he decline keeping in mind that I ditched him?' she wondered. After a full five minutes, a man in formal pale blue shirt and red tie walked in.

“Yes?” he inquired, looking at her.

Anita was not wavered by his scrutiny and answered firmly, “I need to meet Viren”

“I believe the security already told you that he is not here?”

“Then why did he let me in? Or should I ask who gave the orders to let me in?” She asked sarcastically.

“I did”, the man replied amused and continued, “I wanted to know why you want to meet our boss.”

“That is personal. I am his ex-girlfriend” she added

He just shook his head and said, “Sorry woman. You can’t meet him. He is not in the country”

Anita laughed casually. “I know he is very much in this country. I saw him last week in this City”

The man stood staring at her.

She continued, “I need to talk to him about something very important and no, I cant discuss that with anybody else. And, also I have an offer to make”, she emphasized the last sentence and looked at him meaningfully.

She could see his face getting clouded. She waited a few seconds and asked, “What do you say?”

“I have said all that is to be said”, he said unwavering.

“Uff… fine..”, she said and took out a cover from her handbag and holding it out she added, “at least give this letter to him”

“But I think I told you that he is not in the Country”, he stood his ground.

She arched an eyebrow and looked into his eyes for a second. She, then shrugged, kept the letter on the coffee table under a paper weight and walked out while the man stood watching her.

Once she is out, he walked towards the coffee table and took the letter. Confirming that she went out, he climbed up the staircase to the first floor.
