Hello All! Today I want to discuss my issues related to cleaning home. Our home is very big and half of its construction ended last year only. How I managed that with two toddlers god only knows. Now the problem is my mil is too old to do any work and my h doesn't have time also the kids are small. I was also not doing much for cleaning from the day construction started. But now we have started whitewash which will end in few months.

Everything I have to manage with all routine tasks and no one else will never bother about all this.

All ladies here must be managing their homes on their own. Please guide me about various big and small things that should be taken care. How can I start how much time should I give to cleaning daily and anything that you do to make your home look good.

At present I maintain the basic hygiene but if i am not present for few days then the condition become too worst that I can't even take a glass of water without washing it.

I think you get some picture of my condition. Please advice me with whatever knowledge you all have.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Pls make everyone around you to understand that u have difficulty in doing everything. Even if they know some ppl May think that as long as she is not opening her mouth, let us leave as it is. So Pls create awareness about ur difficulty
    2. Pls arrange a person for help for doing house cleaning etc.. so that u can relax for sometime.
    3. Pls talk with ur H first about this. Then u proceed with others. Unless u open ur mouth, nobody will bother. Hope this may help

Someone had mentioned in a humorous way that maids charge 3 packages for varying level of cleaning services.

If you are doing all the clean up work yourself, you need to follow below 3 package rules too.

    1. Everyday package: Basic services: Sweep the floors, wash the dishes, laundry everyday clothes

    2. Plus package: Extra services once a week: Above plus Wipe the floors, clean the bathrooms, dust all the surfaces ( coffee table, end tables, TV cabinets, computer table etc)

    3. Premier package: Delux services once in 15 days: Above plus wash the curtains, wash the pillow covers, light bed sheets etc.

    Good luck :)

    @ messed up,
It is clear from your user ID itself that you are stressed over all the routine that you have to attend to.
From my experience, i can list out a few things you can do on a regular basis. However, make it clear to your hubby at least if not to MIl, that he should do his part to the extent of keeping his things/clothing etc in their allotted places.
Hope you have a maid for the usual sweeping/ swobing etc which is a must.
Apart from that, Get into the habit of organising clothing in shelves etc on a daily basis - if it is done daily,
no work will pile up - and time needed may not be more than half an hour at the most.
Divide items of work that can be done daily/weekly /monthly/six monthly. There are too many of them to be listed here i think, but oyou can plan which items need to be done at what frequency.
It may be difficult in the beginning, but once some order has been made, subsequent cleaning/maintenance will be much easy. With small kids, it may be difficult to have a spic and span home always, but once a routine is established, it becomes a habit and the satisfaction that a well maintained home brings is worth the effort.

Thank you @Greenbay and @joylokhi for the reply.

Maintaining discipline is a good idea. I have a maid for sweeping and washing dishes.
One problem that I have is many rooms are there which are not in use at present. We will use them for different purposes when kids will grow up. But by that time my mil had put very useless furniture there which I am not able to clean as it is overloaded with unnecessary things. Also I am not able to understand what should I do with all that stuff not even I have time and energy left for that. She has habit of collecting empty boxes and all things useful for scrap dealer. Every time I clean her room it is full of that stuff. My room is the only clean room that I maintain.

Oh god! Now I am messed up with my query too. Anyways thanks for trying to help me out. I will make the discipline for the things that I can manage. For other things I don't understand how to even start with.

    @messedup -
My suggestion for you is start doing small things that you can eg. taking a small portion of your house and seeing how you can organise and clean it. Work on the more priority ones eg. kitchen and then move to the less priority ones. managing a house is definitely not a one persons job but in most houses men push it on as a women's responsibility..when you have kids it's not at all easy..pull in ur hubby and talk to him too.. having a maid full time in your house may work at least for few months to set the things in order and later you can jus take the help of a regular maid too..see how it works..

Thank you dear for the reply. We recently shifted our kitchen and it does not have the shelves at present so all the things are unmanageable. Kitchen is too big but the things kept there are also too many. Still I do clean it up as per my understanding. Taking small portion daily is a good idea. Will go with that. Thank you.

    Op.....you are stressed out.
Construction and painting are messy and generally leave everything dusty. Don't stress ,it is temporary.

Even if you clean everyday, things will still look messy till all work is done. It will take many days after that to finally make the house spick and span.

Close the rooms that you do not need. Close all windows in those rooms. Open them once in a week and get them cleaned.

Keep all the stuff for the scrap dealer in one room and close that room.
One day ,call the scrap dealer and just sell it all.
Don't keep any rubbish. It is better things get reused and recycled like this.

Make a place for everything....even if it is temporary till you make permanent arrangement.

Tell the kids where each of their stuff goes and enforce it. Their bags, shoes ,waterbottles ,books etc all should have a designated place. Try to get them to do it.

Till you find your bearings ,keep all stuff that is not used away.Use the empty boxes your mil saves to keep them away till your routine settles.

Start with one room and set up that room most efficiently over the week. Look up videos on u tube how to organise your place . Do it slowly one at a time .

If mil cannot help you much ...let her help you out with easier work like chopping veggies and folding clothes. She can do it while watching tv .

Make your children in charge of one job provided they are old enough.

Like one can make sure all shoes are in the right place .
The other can be in charge of toys or books.
Praise them if they do a good job.
You can let them watch one extra cartoon over the weekend as a reward.

Make your husband incharge of a job he can do over the weekend ....like help you with cleaning fans or removing cobwebs.

Most importantly, accept that a big house cannot be perfect specially with kids around. Some days your house will look good....enjoy those days . Sit in your living room with a cup of tea or coffee and relax.
Other days it will not be perfect and some days it will look like hell.
    This is all normal.

    Enjoy your new home .
Work on it one day at a time.

    Best wishes.

Thank you for the reply. You focussed on the points that I was worried about. Yes the only thing that I can do is step by step cleaning. Will keep some fixed time only for cleaning everyday. Involvement of kids also I can try. For h I am not sure he will help me weekly. He actually has to take tension of all the work like present day work then plan for next day and organising budget plus his job is also too demanding. So for him helping me is not easy and I do understand that. Will try to manage as much as I can.

Thank you everyone for your time that you invested in this post. Anyone if feel that there is something more that I should know and can help me out then please feel free to guide. Thanks.
