    Hello ILs :)
Things we do with passion does not need motivation! However there are certain things we are not passionate about but still we have to do them ! Example : Cleaning home , buying groceries , exercising regularly ,eating healthy.... We can do those forcing ourselves. Is there any way/ways to make those activities enjoyable ?
Do share your thoughts. What motivates you to do routine work :)
    Best Regards,
    R

Meet those who are passionate about these things which will motivate for doing these things for few days. But basic nature of a person can never change. You have to repetitively motivate yourself and each time it may work for few days.

Continuous check and balancing. For ex constant monitoring of my scale forces me to stay in diet. At frequent intervals I would try my old dresses to make sure I still fit. Regarding cleaning I do that at odd times or when I am full of energy. If grocery shopping is boring I put on some music while driving to keep the boredom away. Or take totally new routes to be in the moment. I know that procrastination will not help in the long run so I try to do those chores which I do not like first. And keep the ones I like to the end of day. And sometimes I take a break for a day. Simply do nothing. Sometimes I go to parlor and pamper myself. It helps me to rejuvenate and come back to my routine. Try different things when things become monotonous.

Cleaning home: I do when I have the time n energy or if it bothers me or even when I hate but have to do, music comes as the savior, keep screaming my lungs out n dancing a few steps to it helps

buying groceries: make an outing out of it, dinner later - or I jus order online if not feeling up for it

exercising regularly: pick the form you like, some like yoga, dance, walking - I prefer dance class or walking with some friends. You can pick a gym buddy who will drag you out

eating healthy: I notice that I maintain well when I frequently check my weight n let go when I don't - the way my clothes fit n the number on the scale definitely works magic - that in itself is enough to push

Cooking: I love experimenting so that works n they goto eat it, haha or go for one pot meals.

Routine work tends to get boring n sometimes annoying. Just find your own way to deal with it, differently for annoying days n regular days n even high energy days, then you will see that it becomes manageable.

    Dear Reca,
First finish of things we have to do....no choice. We cannot escape....only procrastinate. In the end we have to do anyway. So, that is not a solution. Just do. My motivator is music.
We do not need any motivation to do what we like to do.

Really enjoying all your thought-provoking threads @reca ! Thank you for your contributions to E&PG. Please keep them coming.

What keeps me going? In one word: Discipline. Motivation is fleeting and inconsistent. Discipline is constant and self-sustaining. Motivation means relying on emotions to prompt you to do things. Discipline means separating your emotions from your actions. When something needs to be done I do it whether I feel like doing it or not. I am not a saint and I do give into laziness and procrastination, but over the years I have trained myself to make the hard choice a majority of the time. The best part is that discipline is like a muscle. The more you flex it, the stronger it gets. Small steps taken everyday to defy the instinct to procrastinate lead to big changes in perspective. Soon you start finding it easier to tackle those unpleasant tasks. Besides just getting the annoying stuff out of the way is in itself quite gratifying. One of my rules as @shyamala1234 said is to swallow the frog first thing in the morning. Do the most unpleasant things first. So much so that these days I can anticipate the relief that comes from tackling the boring chores, and that gives me the impetus required to get them done.

Another tool that has helped me overcome procrastination and anxiety in general is the 5-second rule.

“If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea.”

The idea is to slowly count backwards in your head from 5,4,3,2,1...and by the time you get to one you should already be on your way to doing whatever it was you were planning to do. It is not a magic pill but it does help curb overthinking and decision paralysis. This has really helped me with my running. When I think about going for a run I get up and grab my shoes before five seconds are up. Usually that is enough to get me going.

Here's the TEDx talk it is based on.

@reca very interesting topic. Fear is what works for me. If I don't do something I think about the consequence then I try to do it since I know the result of me not doing is going to affect me.

    Hello @Gauri03 :
Thank you for your encouraging words :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and views. You have hit the nail right at its head !
Discipline- if we feel like doing something, we do it anyway .. if we do not feel like doing, still we do it, that's discipline ... it is the only thing that keeps us consistent day in and day out ...
as you mentioned it correctly, building a solid routine helps to keep us on track.
I will watch the TED talk you have shared :)
One unpleasant thing for me is taking out the trash:fearful: ! Currently, I do it at the end of the day:unamused: ... il do it in the morning now on :D .... :ciao:
    Best Regards,
