100% with @madras2018 on this. When did the world & FB pics start dictating what we wear or what we don’t? Even if I wanted to follow the crowd in that mentality, I am pretty sure that inner voice would shout from inside “really, you care so much about others?”:facepalm:

I remember reading a news article about some website that buys gently used designer wears n ethnic wears to resell. You can probably check online or FB. It was a while ago n I remember checking their website after reading the article. Maybe it can help.

i am learning something new. i never worry about repeating clothes. never into fashion. comfort is all i think of.

a friend of mine decided to sell a dress she got customised for a reception and decided to sell it after a month. that was when i understood the market out there.

if selling indian clothes in the us is difficult you can check these
    Elanic (friend sold it here)

    olx fashion too i think..

It's no big deal to repeat clothes.. to wear an expensive dress only 2-3 times seems like a huge waste of money...
You can try and wear for different set of relatives, friends etc
and I don't think anyone will judge as long as you mix-&-match, accessories, and do hair and makeup differently
Some people even exchange with siblings/cousins and wear.. though I have never done that..
Basically, I just mean you don't have to waste money, just be innovative

I wasn't planning to explain myself, but might as well, since the topic has diverged into wearing clothes to impress people.

I am not the type to splurge on designer dresses- I have a strict budget and buy with the intention that I will get a lot of use from my outfit. I'm picky about the look, quality, and maintenance since I generally keep my clothes forever. None of my ethnic clothes are worn out or damaged. Some items in my closet are 15 years old!!! I have literally used them for years and they are in so many pictures. It's not for the other people, but more that I am bored of seeing myself wear the same things. And since they are in pristine condition, I don't want to throw them away. Now, if you have something in your closet that you have worn a few times, is in great condition, but you won't wear it in the near future (6-12 months) because you have 3 events in the last year wearing the same thing, what would you do? I would prefer to find a new home for the outfit, so that someone can use it before it goes out of style.

I'm not sure how people just assumed that I use my clothes like a movie star... I just hate wasting stuff. Plus I don't have space for so many clothes.

This is one of the problems of living abroad. In India we have countless social occasions, festivals, get togethers, events or even simple everyday dinner outings where one can wear a saree or lehenga or salwar enough number of times before it deserves to be retired. I hand over my unwanted clothes to my maid who becomes elated with such gifts. In case of sarees i make sure I also give her the blouse too.
@BhumiBabe If you want to score brownie points with your housemaid in India (at your parents' or inlaws' place ) given possible extra work load during your visit, hand out gently used unwanted Indian clothed to her/her family. They can only dream of buying such clothes on their meager salary. So store all your clothes in an intl suitcase and take it with you on your next India trip. You wld have solved both of your problems (hers & yours) & earned good karma.

    @BhumiBabe

I am sure you loved those dresses/sarees when you bought them, so why to waste those clothes? Better pack them nicely in a news paper, keep some cloth fresheners and keep them in a suitcase or cupboard and don't use them for next one year. You feel like wearing those dresses again after a long gap and by that time people may forget you wore those dress/saree a year ago.

Usually i do this with my clothes as I don't want to waste my favorite/expensive ones :)

Also, before travelling to India always check your cupboards and plan how many dresses/sarees you really need to buy and how many dresses you can re use.
