She is right! Predictions differ! More like viewpoints. But she must somehow get convinced that life is beyond these predictions. The influence of astrologers , but not astrology, is so much that people blame their stars when things go wrong.

Horoscope briefly describes about the position of planets in the 12 zodiac houses at the time of birth. One's life is influenced by the positions of all the planets and not by just one or two that are not in the desired positions.

Our life is totally influenced by the people we are in association with and not by the planetary placements in the zodiac. We have to make efforts and try our best to identify the places and people we are comfortable with. And NOT decide by what the planets say.. rather the astrologers say.

The subject of astrology is pretty interesting. It can indeed predict how we are going to lead. But then people are using it to derive benefits, evade challenges, determine shortcuts for a comfy living. If the predictions are bad and if there are ways or prayers suggested to improve my thoughts that would help me to face whatever comes in my way, I stand 'for' it ( matching the horoscopes). Else this is just another way to pull us further down.

All that we can do is pray for her well being.

Some belive in astrology so much while others dont... Between what if the dr. have noted your time of birth wrongly??
Many people plan thier C section during good times to ensure good psotion of all the stars during birth. I dont know how much will the stars work when you already decided to plan the birth after studying thier postion...

Watever as a personal choice I believe more in Karma and the power of thoughts to decide your fate together with God's grace.

Nice to have everyone's view points in this matter.
Personally I am someone who doesn't follow astrology. Thanks to my parents and their belief system that has influenced me.
But I don't deny the fact that astrology can be true, and the predictions are sometimes real.
Since I have been married to a family that follows astrology very strictly, I am exposed to this astrology so much in life.
With or without my permission my H and in laws check my chart (that they have developed based on my birth time) and give me suggestions on everything that I do.
In fact, I have personally met a few astrologers both in my country as well in India, who predicted my future to some extent. Besides, they were able to tell me what I went through in my past. So, yes... the have some power or something. I can't totally deny it.

But how I take astrology is different from how my folks take it. That's where all the problem lies.

For me, the predictions may be true. But God has the super power even to change the planets in favor of me.
So, the astrologers may predict my death tomorrow based on the planetary alignment, but if I have faith, God can move these planets for me, and move my death time as well.
Same happens with poverty, joblessness or anything.
Instead of relying in the words of astrologers, I rely with God.

Recently our family astrologer has predicted that I will be jobless after last Oct with the Jupiter transit.
And he said that Saturn transit has very bad effect in my chart; hence I will be permanently jobless after last Dec.
My H and in laws believed that, and forced me to perform remedies as suggested by the astrologer.
I didn't budge, and denied performing anything in the name of remedy.
But as he mentioned, my post was discontinued at my former work place due to unexpected fund discontinuation of a particular project that I managed.
But knowing this in advance I have started applying for several jobs; thus secured not one, but 3 good positions by the time I had to leave my former office.
Now that I am employed, and in fact with a good position that I was before.

In 2011, the same prediction was given to my H. Same as me, he too had to leave his ex-work place due to some internal arrangements.
But he didn't try for another job since it was already predicted that he will not get one. So, he opted to stay at home for 1 year till the bad time moves, and then tried. But this 1 year gap influenced so much in his job hunt.
And he still blames his planets for the irrecoverable loss.

Quite interesting discussions are going on the thread created by SCBV.Congrats to the author .The article has been nominated for the finest post.Having born and brought up in a joint family with nearly 25 cousins I have more experience in the horoscope match/mismatch and how the matching or otherwise is being treated as a pretext under which an alliance is rejected.
Many of us would have heard about the great astronomer mathematician Bhaskaracharya (1114-1185) who has contributed much to mathematics. His works Lilavathi and Bijaganitham( Algebra) are considered unparalleled speaking volumes of his mathematical genius.
It is stated that his work' Lilavathi' was written for his daughter Lilavathi.
In a persian translation of Lilavathi it has been stated that Bhaskaracharya studied his daughter Lilavathi's horoscope which indicated that she is destined for widowhood. He made so many calculations and observed that if her marriage was conducted in a particular muhurtam she would escape widowhood.
Bhaskaracharya devised a water clock . He placed a cup with a small hole thro which water will pass through and get filled in another vessel upto a specified mark. .He arranged it in such a way that the water will reach the level exactly at the auspicious hour when the wedding was to be conducted.

He warned Lilavathi not to go near it.
But the child Lilavathi out of curiosity went near to have a look at the device.A pearl from her nose ring accidentally fell into the cup blocking a portion of the hole.

As the water flow was interrupted by the pearl, water began to flow at a reduced speed.Actually when the water reached the notified level, the auspicious time had already passed.

The marriage took place at the wrong hours resulting in early widowhood of Lilavathi as destined.
( Kanchi Paramacharya used to narrate the story to indicate that destiny cannot be changed.)
No amount of pariharam will help to change the destiny. At the most it may give some mental strength to tide over the crisis.
Bhaskaracharya . as a way of consoling his daughter wrote the mathematical book and named it as 'Lilavathi '
The book is in the form of verses asking her daughter to solve mathematical puzzles and problems.
There is no doubt about the popularity of astrology.According to various opinion polls nearly 40% of people, even in Western countries believe in astrology.Astrology has infiltrated society at all levels and even the most brilliant minds have been unable to resist the fascination.
Though Indian astrology belongs to very early period,,the importance of planets came from Greek astrology after the invasion of Alexander.
Many people say that astrology is a science. If we take Einstein's equation, we will get the same result how many ever times it is tried by various persons.
But each astrologer predicts different results for the same horoscope.
Yes there might be calculations and permutations, but then why does the end result differ when done by different people?! Why is there no solid surety that end result will be correct! Its just a matter of luck. If the astrologer is lucky he will get his predictions correct! As in a science, there is no strict rule in astrology that such and such hypothesis leads to a very specific theorem or answer! It is essentially based on 'Anumaana Sastra( Theory of Probability) and cannot be considered a science as such.

In earlier days they had no concept of the vast distances .Now that exact distances are known ,it does not appear logical to assume that the forces exerted by the stars and planets at the moment of birth can anyway shape our future .It is all the more confusing how the position of distant heavenly bodies make certain periods more favourable to people born under particular sign .No reasons have been assigned for the same.
There are many more contradictions .
What I observe after taking some real interest in learning and studying astrology is that the mathematical part of it is absolutely stunning and captivating .But the prediction part of it is very much evasive and has an element of escapism .Study of our own horoscopes slowly and steadily without any prejudice did not yield correct results. Some of the major accidents/bad events could not be revealed.'Transfer' may denote official transfer, promotion or ascension to heaven.

There is nothing wrong in getting guidance from the astrologer as long as it does not have an adverse impact.

Suppose two horoscopes indicate the line of COMMUNICATION .
If the horoscope is that of a girl/boy who has studied 12th Std we may say that he/she may study Electronics & Communications Engineering or Journalism or they may work in a Media.
But if the horoscope belongs to a school Drop out we may say that he/she may become a postman ,or work in a courier company.Astrologers also should have some understanding of the background.
We may consult any number of astrologers. But ultimate decision should be based on our intelligence, common sense & realities. If we have faith in ourselves & Faith in Him,problems will take care of themselves!!
    Sorry for the long reply.

Sad indeed, SGBV. I really don't know whether to believe in astrology or not. But if one believes in it and in karma as well, it is time we also understood that if karma has ensured two people like each other enough to get married, then that is probably what is designed to be. Final decisions being in individual hands, it is upto them to do whatever they think is right for them.

My dad was a believer in astrology and used to also match horoscopes for those who wanted. That was his hobby after he retired. However when it came to me, I told him I'd rather marry a person who I liked and not risk matching horoscopes just in case they did not match. He agreed not to match. BH's family also did not go too deeply into matchmaking. (I guess they were happy he agreed to marry after all!!!) I remember an astrologer we knew once saying that if it was a love marriage, there was no need to match horoscopes as the match was already made in heaven. Convenient (and I suspect a wise way too) way of looking at things. Ironically his own daughter got married and lost her husband at a very early age.

It is different in each ones experience .
Sometimes by chance what is told in astrology may come true and the person will become big fan of the astrologer .

I dont consult astrologers . Though i know astrology is a very precise science based on mathematical calculations , i feel most astrologers are not very learned in that . They make some broad readings only . Some dont know how one aspect can cancel the effect of another aspect but simply give confusing readings of both .

Coming to marriages , amarriage will workonly ifboth partners are willing to make it work, what ever matching is shown in their horoscopes . In our own family , two marriages done after intense horoscope matching , failed and ended in divorce within three years . Another marriage is a tragedy for the suffering wife , after astrologers promised the groom’s horoscope is the best match for her .

Two other marriages , where no horoscope was seen but decided by the couples themselves are flourishing happily. One marriage for which horoscopes did not match even 10%, is doing great and had happy silver wedding anniversary recently.
