Gabfest: And Thereby Hangs A Tail

I am not immune from looking at the number of Likes, and who Liked, and who did not. But I don't pause for long any more. Hard to identify why. Maybe one reason is that I already know that the folks whose regard I most value, I already have it in ample measure. (That sentence is not framed correctly.) Regard as in care, concern, thought, notice, heed, attention.

Likes are like the paper mail that comes in - is not spam, not a bill, yet not requiring immediate opening.

The one time I do linger is when I see a post by another member with zero or very few Likes, and it deserves more Likes. And my favorite Like under anybody's post is to see a Like from a longtime absent member. At that time, I am indeed hurled into a whirlpool of conjectures. Mostly pleasant ones.

Another case study won't hurt. But let it also star AlamPanah. There are Likers that drop in frequency after disagreements.. but there are some that don't. Viswa, JAG, SGBV are some names that come to mind readily. With these you can be sparring in one thread, and business as usual in other or chatter threads. One more name in this category (that I am not putting here), is special to me. We can be having a heated back and forth in a thread,and I could be also having a PM exchange at the same time on one of life's vicissitudes. Usually my life, some real or imagined trouble I like to call 'we-sissy-tude'.. or rather 'my-sissy-tude'.

 

The older IL forum used to show each member's Likes Received and Likes Given. Alas now the Likes Given data is missing. If not, AlamPanah's Likes Given algorithm is an open and shut case.

I will just say I am glad I don't have a vegetable garden and am not a great cook. Na hai baans, na bansuri. No pictures, no missing Likes.

 

Thanks Nonya. Reminds me of that aunt one dreads running into at Thanksgiving. You accidentally embarrass yourself once in her presence and she'll be damned before she lets you live it down. ; )

 

Add an 'also' to the question.

Was this thought expressed some place? Either way, buying or not is optional. Sale is not forced. And, better to quote the actual post where spiritual/intellectual growth is mentioned and ask the one who posted. Rather than club it in a response where only my post is quoted.

Instead of criticizing arguments for having negative Watson's also, you can present arguments to not have negative Watson's and to have only positive Watson's.

 

I have no name handy to swear on, but I feel/assume the same when AP Likes a post by me in Reln forum.
