    Dear IL's,
Me and my husband moved to Atlanta quite a while back, but we are still not able to meet any like-minded couple to hang out with.

I'm starting to wonder what is it that we are lacking??? We are nice and cordial people, but all the Indians that we see here and there (like temple/grocery store) just don't even smile, we can't even approach them. It is like they already have a bunch of people to hang out with and new people are not welcome :( . Where can I go and what activities should I start doing so that I can meet some nice people to hang out with.

Twice we've had bad experience while trying to be nice to indian people we meet randomly. Both the times they turned out to be some network marketing people who just wanted to loop us in their business. Now, we are cautious about the people who we don't know, who come up to us and talk a lot.

Please tell me how to make friends.

    Hi,

I just moved to HK and found similar issues. Being overly friendly, I find it hard that people can be so straight faced! Try social websites where you can find someone in your vicinity and you can drop a mail or a message. The world is small and you might end up finding someone you know!!! I have actually noticed several people from our not country who do not come forward let alone smile! Maybe they are weary too! I'm sure every place have their associations like a community of a particular language; u could enroll with them too! Hope this helps :)

    Hi Payasa,
Welcome to the club! :) We are also nice cordial people in in the same boat as you. On one side, we gotta be beware of Amway and Quixtar people hanging out in Walmart and other stores, who want to dump their business ideas on us. So we are apprehensive of their over-friendly smiles. On the other hand, we just want to make friends. So we look for someone to smile. :) It's a catch 22 situation. Anyways...

I'm glad there are platforms like Indus ladies where we have a fair chance of meeting like-minded people and making friends.

Tell me more about yourself. If you want you can PM me.

    Pooja

Tell me about it! We live in Montgomery, AL and hardly get to see Indian anywhere. And the few that we do see are pretty tightly wound too. It gets pretty frustrating :-/
